Vidauban golf course tower

This is a short tour that can be completed in an hour and allows you to recharge your batteries in nature. Starting from the Vidauban athletics stadium, after a few kilometres on a tarmac road, you will experience your first change of scenery with a ford that can be more or less difficult to cross depending on the season. Then you follow the golf course fence, first on a tarmac road and then, after a few hundred metres, on a very rough track, but the golf course offers magnificent views. Leaving the golf course, you enter the woods on small tracks, then cross another ford before reaching the Route du Plan de la Tour, after crossing another ford and the bridge over the Aille. The route ends by taking another grassy, shaded path.

Description of the route

Start of the athletics stadium in the Lotissement le Clos housing estate in Vidauban.

(S/E) Leave the housing estate behind you and take the Route de Saint-Tropez on the left. Pass under the motorway and railway bridges and continue to the next crossroads.

(1) Turn left onto Chemin de la Rourède and continue to a three-way junction.

(2) Leave Chemin de la Rourède by turning left onto Chemin de la Rourède Est.

(3) At the four-way intersection, continue straight ahead on Chemin du Peyloubier Sud and continue straight ahead until you see barriers closing off the motorway area on your left.

(4) Just after the bend, turn right onto a small, barely marked grassy track and follow it for about 150 m until you reach a fork.

(5) Turn right and you will come to a grassy plateau with a wooden hut. Follow the edge of the plateau on the right. After about 100 metres, the dirt track is covered with tarred stones and then concrete. The track descends to the end of Chemin des Bruyères.

(6) Turn left (Chemin de Roucas Troucas) and, at the end of the asphalt, keep right and continue on this road until you reach the Aille.

(7) Cross the river with caution, especially in winter and after rain. Follow the track and turn right at the first junction. Continue along the path until you reach the golf course fence.

(8) Continue left on Chemin du Plan de d'Aille, along the fence, until you reach the end.

(9) Turn right onto the D72 and you will soon reach the DFCI E86 track, Les Fenouils.

(10) Take this sandy track uphill, bordered on the right by the golf course fence. Follow this track, which is very uneven, rutted and stony, keeping the golf course fence on your right.

(11) At the crossroads, keep right and watch the golf course fence disappear on your right. Stay on this track for about 1,500 metres. It is grassy and sandy, winding between trees with large roots crossing it in several places.

(12) Cross a ford, which is dry in summer, then pass through a clearing with a small house that appears to be abandoned, and continue until you see two information signs about the forest on the right.

(13) Take the track just opposite the information signs, which involves a 90° left turn. Continue, keeping left, until you reach a crossroads after passing a field on your left.

(14) Turn sharply right (Piste de Bérard) and continue straight ahead until you reach a ford.

(15) Cross it and continue (Chemin de Bérard) for about 150 m until you reach the start of the right-hand bend and a grassy path on the left.

(16) Take this path and follow it for about 150 m, watching out for holes that may be hidden by tall grass. It winds a little. Do not turn left onto the stream, but keep right until you reach the ruins and the bridge over the Aille. Turn left and follow the path to the end, where it is blocked by two large boulders.

(17) Continue left (D72), cross the bridge over the Aille and continue to the small bridge, marked by white and blue striped signs.

(18) Immediately after, turn right onto Chemin de la Bastide de Castel and follow this gravel path straight ahead. Cross a small bridge, then follow a field on your left until you reach a fork.

(19) Turn left and leave the valley to head north. After 350 m, rejoin the route you took earlier at No. 1075 and turn left (Chemin de Roucas Troucas).

(6) Ignore Chemin des Bruyères on the right and continue straight ahead until you reach the four-way intersection just before the motorway bridge.

(3) Continue straight ahead, pass under the motorway bridge, then turn left to keep the A8 on your left. At the three-way junction at the entrance to the Clos housing estate, turn right and return to the athletics stadium (S/E).
