Ecou marsh “Marais d’Ecou” in Tilques

Houses, each with its own dock and boat moored on the Lansberg. People fishing practically from their homes. Cottages, each more beautiful than the last. Little market gardeners' boats loaded with crates of vegetables heading off to who knows where.
Truly, the passage along the Lansberg will delight you with its beauty.
You'll find a tranquil, picturesque feel that's rare in the region.

Description of the walk

Start from Tilques church car park, Rue de la Croix

(S/E) Opposite the church porch, turn right. At the corner of the cemetery, turn left then right into Ruelle du Coutre. This becomes a small path, passing the Rivière du Moulin and then a house on your right. Continue straight ahead between two fields until you come to a small road, Rue du Château.

(1) Follow this to the left, ignoring the street on the left and taking the next left, Rue de la Croix, as far as the lake.

(2) Turn right into Rue du Rivage towards the campsite (GR® de l'Audomarois). Pass the small marina.

(3) Cross the Pont de la Guillotine and turn right onto the Sentier du Lansberg. Continue for 2.7 km along the Laensberg and then the Serques.

(4) At the end, turn left onto the Sentier de la Liette. At the fork in the road, turn left into Rue du Coudou, then right into Chemin du Marais.

(5) Turn right into Impasse des Malots, and left at the next junction into Rue de Zudrove. Ignore the roads on your left and right, leave the asphalt and continue along the path to Rue du Noir Près.

(6) Go to the crossroads of four roads and turn left onto Route de Serques (D214).

(7) At the fork with a central grassy island and a small chapel, continue left on Rue de la Croix to reach the church car park (S/E).

Practical information

A word of clarification:
If you like "the river at the water's edge", from (1) to (4), the route is particularly picturesque, but thereafter it is less interesting, so I suggest you skip the loop.
Turning around at (4), at Serques, le Coudou, the distance covered is practically the same.

I did this route in 2018.
If you come across any rest areas, you can take photos of them, locate them, and post them here.

In the nearby area

There's much more to visit in the beautiful Audomarois region.
For example: the Blockhouses at Eperlecques, the Houle or Clair Marais marshes, the Clair Marais forest, the old town of Saint-Omer, Elfaut, etc...
For those wishing to spend several days in the region, there are at least three campsites to choose from on this route alone.

A beautiful walk along the hedged farmland.
In pleasant, green surroundings.

Walk in light rain 🌧️ which is almost a good thing, as there are quite a few tarmac sections.
The stretch along the marsh is quite pleasant. We enjoyed this 10km walk in 2:30.

We did this walk on Saturday 08 June 2024. The map and the walk suited us perfectly.
Thank you very much.

Walk completed in mid-August
Very nice walk, mainly along the canals.
The loop ends in the fields.
I agree with igloo25: it's a shame not to take the walk via the chain ferries.
We didn't know Tilques and Serques at all: it made us want to go back.

A very pleasant walk, but loses its charm as soon as you leave the Marais de Serques.
The addition of a crossing from one bank to the other with chain ferries would give it a different feel.

We did the walk on a Sunday around 7pm, it was summer and the evening was ours.
There's nothing extraordinary about it, but the walk along the river is very pleasant. Unlike many towpaths in the north, which I find tiresome, this is a lively place.
And the 2nd part, in the fields, I think depends on the season. For us, the sky was interesting, the colours beautiful at the end of the day and we really enjoyed it.
It's only the 1st part, the loop by the castle, that I find useless. We'll have to see how to get to the lake directly.
We're not from around here and we enjoyed it, even if there was nothing magical about it, but it was a great discovery.

The part of the route along the Landsbergue was pleasant, but when we got to Sergues for the return to Tiques, there was absolutely nothing to see; just fields as far as the eye could see.
What's more, 30% of the Tiques-Sergues section was very muddy (following downpours) and flooded in places, so you really needed your boots to get through in some places. It must be much more pleasant in summer.

A lovely walk for adults and a bike ride for children. Duration: 2 hours 10 minutes. Be careful, however, as younger children may fall into the water.

A beautiful trail along the Laensberg where ducks live alongside great crested grebes, coots and herons. Numerous signs inform walkers about the fauna, flora, habitat and riches of the marsh. Passing through the fields, you can also learn about the crops grown there - the Tilques carrot, of course, but also the importance of livestock farming in the last century. It's a lovely walk, best done in the cool of the early morning, to fully appreciate the riches of this little corner of paradise.
