"Loup y es-tu?" in Luzeret

A lovely walk exploring the forests of Luzeret, a village bordering the Brenne Regional Nature Park, where wolves once roamed alongside humans.

Description of the walk

The start is in the village, at the junction of the D29 and D59, next to the war memorial and the River Sonne. The route follows a PR® trail marked ‘No. 16 Loup y es-tu?’, signposted in yellow.

(S/E) Follow the D29 northwards, cross the bridge over the Sonne and head towards the church. Continue on the D29 towards Argenton until you reach the water tower just before leaving the village.

(1) Leave the D29 and turn left towards the "Lodge du Bois Cordé". Follow the Raterie along the grassy path, then continue straight on until you reach a more stony path.

(2) Turn left for just a hundred metres, then turn right towards the Luzeret Forest.
Once you have entered the forest, continue along the path straight ahead until you reach a tarmac section

(3) Then turn left towards Les Druidets.

(4) At the road, turn left again, walk alongside the hamlet and, at the junction, turn left once more until you find yourself in front of a farm entrance.

(5) At this dead end, take the path on the right and enter the Forêt de la Lande.

(6) Shortly afterwards, you’ll come to a Y-junction; take the left-hand path and continue along the same track until you reach the D46.

(7) Cross it carefully and continue through the woods. Cross a stony path.

(8) About 400 m further on as the crow flies, turn left, towards the east; keep an eye out for the yellow markings as there are no landmarks in the middle of the forest to indicate this change of direction! Continue through the Forêt de la Lande, then through the Bois de la Souderie and follow a communal pond.

(9) Once you have passed the pond, turn right and continue along the grassy path opposite until you reach a road.

(10) Turn left, walk carefully along the road, then take the path through the undergrowth on the right before reaching the Stop sign. 400 m further on, once you’ve joined the D46, head down towards Luzeret on the right, then return to the starting point via a small lane opposite the castle and the church (S/E).

Alas, there isn’t much left of those beautiful, genuine old-growth forests. That’s what I was hoping for on this route, but between the ‘newly planted woodland’, the lovely path through the woods where you do find a few old trees but which very quickly leads onto a road, and finally the forest where you come across clear-cut areas… it was disappointing and sad.

A lovely walk mainly through the Luzeret forest, but also along beautiful paths through meadows and alongside ponds. Very pleasant.

I did this route again recently.
Perfect for a change of scenery after being cooped up indoors, with a few ponds at the start and end of the route, forests, valleys...

A lovely time out with the dogs.
