Circuit de Roussines autour du bois de Chinan

This hike is suitable for cycling (but it's really mountain biking), walking and horse riding.
You can admire the majestic oak tree in Saint-Civran, which is several hundred years old, perhaps even a thousand.

Description of the walk

The starting point is the Roussines car park, next to the school and the town hall.

(S/E) Head towards Saint-Civran, then take the street that runs alongside the church on the right. Join the main road towards Saint-Civran. Continue right along a small road, then follow a path to reach the highest point.

(1) Take the path opposite that leads downhill, but be careful as it is often poorly maintained for the first few metres. Continue until you reach the confluence of the Chinon and Vallées streams.

(2) Cross the stream and turn right at the crossroads. You will reach the famous centuries-old oak tree.

(3) Continue straight ahead to reach a crossroads of paths directly below the power line.

(4) Take the left fork and you will soon reach the D46a road. Turn right onto it to reach a crossroads at the Étang de Chassingrimont.

(5) Turn right onto the path and then immediately left. You will come out onto a small road at a place called Rue Martin. Turn right. The road then splits in two. Make a quick first turn left then right to follow a grassy path straight ahead. Walk along the edge of a wood and then enter the Chinan wood. You will then reach the D1 road at the edge of the wood.

(6) Cross the road and continue straight ahead until you reach Carrefour de la Gare aux Loups. Turn right at a 90° angle onto a stony path, pass under the power lines to reach the crossroads of the track leading to La Tuilerie.

(7) Turn right, then quickly right again. At the end of this path, at the crossroads, enter the forest, veering slightly to the left. Continue until you reach a crossroads.

(8) Turn slightly left, then left again at the next crossroads to reach a crossroads with four perpendicular directions.

(9) Take the path on the right. Then cross the D1 and take the road towards Roussines. You will come to a crossroads at the edge of the forest.

(10) Turn right onto this path. Follow the edge of the forest and then veer left. Cross the Ruisseau des Vallées stream to reach the village of Beaumont.

(11) Turn left to join the Beaumont road and continue to the crossroads.

(12) Turn right onto this road and continue until you reach the Roussines car park (S/E).

Notes

I do not recommend walking barefoot as some sections are poorly maintained (brambles, nettles).
Note: as some paths are used to move livestock, you may occasionally find your progress hindered by simple ropes blocking the way. Simply pass underneath them or untie them and put them back.
