The slag heaps of Loos-en-Gohelle

Departure from the Salle Duvauchelle car park on Rue Decrombecque.

(S/E) Exit the car park and turn left onto Rue Decrombecque until you reach the pharmacy. Turn left onto Rue Arthur Lamendin, then left at the square to reach Avenue du Général de Gaulle.

(1) Cross the street and go to the pedestrian crossing opposite, then turn left at the fourth street to enter the Canadian memorial.

(2) Go around it, continuing straight ahead, then right and twice left, and pass behind the English cemetery to reach the industrial estate.

(3) Turn left, then right onto Rue Palissy, then take Rue Becquerel and at the end, turn right onto Route de Béthune.

(4) Cross the road carefully and take Rue du Grand Mont opposite. Before the right-hand bend, turn left then right until you reach a fork in the road.

(5) Turn right after the pylon. Continue straight ahead until you reach the Jardin du Louvre.

(6) Turn right towards the gardens and then left onto the uphill path.

(7) Pass over the Rocade Minière and continue to the entrance of the site.

(8) Turn right and follow the path. Then quickly turn left and further on, take the steep path on the left. Stay on this side at the top to reach a fork.

(9) Turn right and walk along the slag heap on your right. Follow this path and climb up to the platform, then go around to the right. The more adventurous can climb the slag heap. Continue to a tarmac path leading downhill.

(10) Descend this path on the right-hand side towards the exit. Return to the crossroads you passed on the way there.

(8) Keep to the right and, after the barrier, return to the ring road and find another fork in the road that you passed on the way there.

(7) Take the path on the right to reach the base of the Site du 11-19, which you will go around on the right. Then keep left and at the end take the rail bike, reaching a fork you passed on the way there.

(5) Continue on the rail bike to the road (Route de Béthune).

(11) Cross the road and continue on the rail bike, cross Rue Roger Salengro and continue to a fork.

(12) Leave the rail bike and take the path on the left, then take the first left towards the motorway (which you follow on your left) until you reach a fork.

(13) Turn left, go under the motorway, then immediately right and continue straight ahead. Cross Chemin des Croisettes and go straight ahead to the starting point (S/E).
