The beaches of Trégastel and Île Renote

This circuit takes you almost all the way around the commune of Trégastel.
Trégastel is the second commune that, together with neighbouring Perros-Guirec, forms the pink granite coast.
From the start to the (5), the route follows theGR®34and therefore the customs officers' path, known here as the coastal path, with a short detour around Île Renote.
Special feature: as it runs along the coast, the circuit has very little elevation gain.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at Tourony Beach.
Caution: Before setting off, check the tide times - see practical information below

(S/E) Leave the car park to the west, keeping Tourony Beach on your right.

Red and whiteGR®34markings

After 200m, turn left and head west. Ignore all paths on the left and walk as close to the shore as possible.

(1) If the tide allows, go down to the beach and walk along the shore. Otherwise, continue on the path which becomes Rue du Quai Sainte-Anne, then turn right heading north. To follow the path along the shore, take the slipway at the houses, then turn left and right to reach Boulevard de Coz-Porz. Follow the boulevard for about 100 metres, then turn right and left at the fork. The street becomes a coastal path until it reaches Route de l'Île Renote.

(2) Take the footpath on the right to go around the island, ignoring all the paths on the left.
After a very narrow passage between two huge rocks, take a short detour into a private property (access permitted) to discover a magnificent covered alleyway and then, at the tip of the island, admire the view of the Île de Costaérès and its castle, as well as Saint-Guirec, a district of Ploumanac'h. Pink granite is everywhere here.

After touring the island, continue along the shore to reach the swimming pool and marine aquarium in Trégastel.
On the right, you will notice a large cube-shaped rock: Le Dé
Walk past the bathing huts and continue along the path to go around the headland.

Between (3) and (4), theGR® trail is poorly signposted due to recent storms.

(3) If the sea level allows, go down to the beach and continue west on the Grève Blanche to go around the point and continue south on the Grève Rose (these two names come from the colour of the sand on these two beaches). Turn left to avoid the rocky point and go down to the beach to reach a concrete staircase in the middle of the beach.

(4) Leave the beach via the concrete steps in the middle of the beach. Continue south along Toull Bihan Beach.

Off the marked route

(5) Turn left. When you reach Route de Trébeurden, cross it and follow it to the right for 200 m, then turn left into Rue de Kerlavos. The road bends to the left and then to the right. At the fork, continue to the right.

(6) At Poul Fich, continue right and after 50m turn left. Cross Route de Lannion and continue straight ahead through the housing estate.

(7) Turn right onto Route du Bourg, then take a path on the left and finally turn right onto Rue des Mouettes. At the turning area, continue straight ahead. Keep left and continue straight ahead onto Route de Golgon.

(8) Take the path on the left towards the back of the Super U store and immediately turn right. When you reach the motorhome parking area, turn right. At the end of the street, turn left.

(9) Follow Route des Traouïéro to the left until you reach the departmental road. Take care when crossing. Turn right, then 60 metres later turn left into Rue de Tourony. Continue straight ahead to reach the car park (S/E).

Practical information

We did this hike at low tide. This is why, as we often walked on the foreshore (beaches or shore), the route is shown in blue. This is the case along the Baie de Sainte-Anne (south-western part) but also along the Grève Blanche (north and west) and the Grève Rose. However, if the tide is high, the coastal path is never very far away, allowing you to complete the entire route.

Alternative
(3) If the sea is high, continue straight ahead, passing between two posts forming a porch, and take the stairs on the left. At the crossroads, follow Avenue d'Ys to the right. At the end, take Rue des Trois Grèves on the left. At the end, take the coastal path on the left to reach the concrete stairs in the middle of the beach.

Very pretty hike with impressive scenery. We only did 1 to 4 return trips for practical reasons.
It was a bit crowded, especially around Renote Island.

Great course to discover the Pink Granite Coast.
It's a marvel and the course is top notch.
Magnificent views 🤩 !
Quite a lot of people already at this time of year but it's still very enjoyable.
I recommend ++ and thank the author!

Superb scenery. A very easy walk. For timing reasons, our walk was limited to sections 1 to 4.

A magnificent walk along the coastal path, among the pink granite rocks, where each step, at low tide, offers us a new picture of tranquillity and colour...

The sun shone brightly on this beautiful, easy walk.
The coast is magnificent, and Ile Renote is worth the short loop.
We were worried that the last part inland would be less pleasant, but it was in fact very interesting.

The weather was fine, but cool during the walk.
With the app, there was no problem following the description, although I did tend to follow the indicated PR rather than the shortcuts in some cases. I set off from Touroni beach, with a large car park and a magnificent view in the morning sunshine.
I really enjoyed this walk, the coastal part is really interesting, with superb rocks and beautiful white sandy beaches all along the way. The tour of Ile Renote is also really interesting.
We'd definitely recommend it!

We hiked on 20 August and parked in the shopping centre car park. There's a tearoom that doubles as a coffee shop with a few tables. Note that there is direct access to the footpath from the petrol pumps.
Beautiful postcard landscapes by the sea.
I really liked the way back through the countryside, which is full of little paths, which was a nice surprise.

A very beautiful route and scenery, on the one hand the Ile Renote is forbidden for cliff descents, but it is very well signposted. At one point you leave the GR 34 and follow the yellow lines or horseshoes, you find yourself on paths and lanes outside the town. The charm of this walk is that you walk along the coast with different landscapes, footpaths, undergrowth and narrow streets before returning to the coastline. 1 delight.

A must-do. In this uncrowded season. If you're just passing through, you'll really want to check out the trail around Île Rénote. The itinerary can easily be adapted and shortened if necessary.

It's a really lovely walk, and the beauty of the pink granite coast has a lot to do with it. The tour of Ile Renote is very busy, so it's best to come in the morning.

80% of the route is by the sea, so it's naturally very busy at this time of year.
