A circular walk through the Dailley Gorges starting from Les Granges
This is a short but picturesque walk. You’ll climb 656 steps alongside a waterfall, using several wooden staircases of excellent quality. You’ll then pass through a charming little valley before descending much more gently back to the starting point.
Access by car from Salvan, then via the village of Les Granges. Follow Rue du Village, then Chemin du Dailley (which is actually a street).
(S/E) From the car park, head north and follow the path towards the gorges.
(1) Turn left (ignore the path leading down to the right towards the potholes). Further on, the climb begins via some very good wooden steps.
(2) Turn right towards the Vallon des Van. You’ll pass several signposts.
(3) Cross a road and walk past an inn. Cross a stream and arrive at a junction.
(4) Turn left towards Les Granges.
(5) Continue to follow the signs for Les Granges.
(6) At the bottom, follow the road to the right.
(7) Take the path leading down to the left. At the next junction, turn right. Walk past a large picnic table and continue downhill to the car park (S/E).

About a hundred metres before the start, there are public toilets in a council building.
Yellow signposting all the way.
Auberge au Vallon de Van – check if it is open. Restaurants in Les Granges.
Worth a visit
The Dailley Waterfall: our route runs alongside it (see photo): the path starts at the bottom and climbs to the top of the waterfall. From my point of view, it follows a waterfall rather than a gorge.
Dailley Gorges: First opened to tourists around 1900, the infrastructure was destroyed during the construction of the road leading to the Vallon du Van in 1944. Reopened in its entirety 100 years later. Thanks to the residents of the village of Les Granges and the association that maintains it.
The Savenay glacial potholes: from (1), follow the signposted path downwards. Approximately 500 metres away, with an elevation gain of 110 metres. As evidence of the last ice age, the potholes are impressive cauldrons carved directly out of the rock by the force of water from a subglacial torrent and the resilience of stone harder than granite.
