Parking is available on the D280 road, after Charbonnières-les-Sapins heading towards Bonnevaux-le-Prieuré, immediately after the pigsty, at the start of the walk, without obstructing the path. If you wish to combine the walk with a visit to the Dino Zoo, you can park in the prehistoric park car park, bearing in mind that this will add 1.5 kilometres of tarmac road. Yellow and blue markings are faded on the second section.
(S/E) Take the small tarmac road on the right, which quickly turns to gravel. As you enter the woods, leave a gravel track on your left and, at the fork fifty metres further on, continue along the gravel track on the right. A little further on, at another fork, continue straight ahead.
(1) Fifty metres further on, the marked path turns sharply left towards Combe Noire. At the meadow, follow the edge on your left, then turn sharply left at the far end, following the fence to reach a stony path which you will follow to the right, passing under a power line.
(2) You’ll reach a small tarmac road; head down it to the left until you reach the main road. Follow it to the right for about 500 metres. When you see the farm shed, turn left onto the stony path.
(3) At the edge of the woods, head straight down to the left. A little further down, when the path begins to climb slightly, take a sharp right-hand bend. The signposting has disappeared. To your right, through tall, slender trees, views of the wild Brême valley. You will then look out over the gorges.
(4) When you are closest to the stream, look out for a small path on the right leading down to the stream. A little wild spot, ideal for a break when the water is low. You can follow the stream upstream (on the left) to a small waterfall. Be careful, the rock is slippery. Return to the path, which climbs again but still offers lovely views of the small gorges.
(5) Back on the main road, turn left to return to your car park (S/E).
The paths are rocky and slippery in places. Sturdy footwear is essential and the use of walking poles is recommended.
