Park in Saules at the village hall car park, just below the Défois spring fountains.
(S/E) Go up Chemin des Vignes. At the crossroads, turn right and then immediately left at the three-way junction. The path leads to the edge of the forest, where the local school has created an arboretum.
(1) About 150 m after the start of the edge, take thesecond path on the left down into the Gougnot Forest towards Loray to reach the Gougnot/Lahier viewpoint.
(2) Take care on a fairly slippery descent when passing through a turnstile.
(3) At the crossroads with the mountain bike trail and forest path, take the path furthest to the left. At the junction with a marked path, keep left on the path that continues downhill. Reach the Gougnot-Lahier viewpoint over the Loue valley.
(4) Continue left north-northeast.
(5) At the junction with the mountain bike trail, stay on the left-hand path towards Ornans.
(6) When you reach the cavity in the rock face, ignore the fairly steep descent to the left towards Ornans and take the path on the right.
(7) At an intersection, ignore the path on the right and, after about 50 metres, take the fairly steep path on the left along the rock. This will take you to Roche Bottine (viewpoint over the Loue valley).
(8) Retrace your steps.
(7) At the intersection you passed earlier, turn left. You will come to a forest road; follow it to the right for a few metres.
(9) Take the first path on the left to climb towards Saules.
(10) At the end of the path in the woods, follow the communal path to the right towards Saules.
(11) At the entrance to the village, turn right, continue along Chemin de Ceinture, then turn left onto Chemin des Vignes, which leads to the car park. Don't hesitate to admire the architecture of the Défois spring fountains just downstream from the car park (S/E).
