Parking is available in Bonnevaux-du-Bas near the remains of the old priory bell tower. Yellow-blue and white-red markings.
(S/E) Head towards the small stone bridge at the bottom of the valley, leaving the bell tower behind you. Head towards Saut du Chevalier. The road becomes stony after the bridge. At the fork marked by a signpost and a sign saying "Interdiction sauf riverain" (No entry except for residents), continue straight ahead along the Brême stream. When the stony path disappears into a field, cross the Brême on the right via a wooden footbridge.
(1) Immediately after the footbridge, turn slightly to the right and walk about 50 metres to the Saut Chevalier waterfall. Return to the path and climb up to the tarmac road. Turn right at the sharp angle towards Saut du Chevalier.
(2) Stop 300 metres further on at the Saut du Chevalier viewpoint on the right, which offers a splendid view of the Brème Valley. Picnic table. 200 metres from the viewpoint, descend to Ornans via the stony path on the left.
(3) When the tree line ends on the left, there is a lovely view of the valley. Continue for about forty steps and take the path that climbs up the wooded hillside on the right, despite the yellow-blue cross (Mountain Bike Route 26). At the top, the path becomes a stone path. Leave a path on your right to reach a hairpin bend. Then climb up to the right.
(4) You will arrive at the Roche du Mont viewpoint overlooking the old town of Ornans and the upper and lower Loue valley, with a view, if the sky is not too foggy, of the Roche de Hautepierre. Take care when walking along the cliffs past the Virgin of Notre-Dame du Mont! Continue a little further along the cornices for various viewpoints and, at the last one (overlooking the castle), join the path that crosses the dry limestone lawns, i.e. short herbaceous plant formations that grow on shallow soil and are exposed to significant sunlight. Continue along the cliff path, entering a small pine forest to reach the Roche des Pins viewpoint, nestled in greenery and featuring a bench where you can rest or have lunch.
(5) Stay on this beautiful path until you reach the Manbouc stream, which you cross via a small wooden bridge. After the footbridge, at the fork, continue straight ahead uphill (towards Ferme de Septfontaine).
(6) You will come to a hairpin bend at the top of a small valley, where there is a fork in the hiking trails. Go up to the right towards the Fermes de Septfontaine. At the meadow, follow the fence and continue straight ahead until you reach the small tarmac road. Turn around for a view of Mont Poupet and Mont Mahoux. Then turn right and walk past the farms for about 300 metres until you reach the signpost.
(7) Descend to the left onto the gravel road towards Vallée de la Brême. The path quickly disappears into a pasture near an electrical transformer. Go through the small metal gate on the left and follow the barbed wire fence towards Bonnevaux-du-Bas. At the pylon, you will find a path at the edge of the forest that descends into the valley. The path may be slippery in wet weather. Follow the signposts carefully.
(8) After a few wooden steps, with the first houses of Bonnevaux-du-Bas in sight, you will reach a wider path which you will follow downhill to the right. At the edge of the woods, turn left onto the gravel road to return to the priory and your vehicle (S/E).
The route includes cliffside paths and unsecured viewpoints. The trails are rocky and slippery in places. Sturdy footwear is essential and walking sticks are recommended.
