Park in the car park near the Chavigny cemetery on Rue du Chatel.
(S/E) With the cemetery on your right, climb up to the plateau following the blue ring or green disc markings (shared with several other marked trails) to altitude 404, which corresponds to the three-way junction in two forest tracks. Then take the path on the right along plot 19, heading south-west.
(1) About twenty metres before the edge of the cliff, take the path on the left that runs along it. Be careful in places where the path is close to the cliff edge (10 to 25 metres depending on the location). As you progress, you can see the faults and cracks that are slowly cutting into the cliff faces, which will eventually break away and collapse (in the distant future). As this massif is heavily wooded, enjoy the few views of the Moselle valley through the trees.
After about 1,500 m, you will reach the site of an ancient Leuque camp, whose cliff marked the southern boundary (and natural defence). A little further on, you will find a green rectangle signpost, which you should follow when it branches off to the right to descend the hillside.
(2) Follow theGRP® Autour de Nancy trail to the right, which turns right and heads south.
(3) Leave it to continue on the left following the green markings that lead to a calvary at the foot of the Saint-Joseph Hermitage. Beautiful view of the Moselle valley. Go up on the right following the red ring markings towards Chavigny.
(4) Near the hermitage, don't miss the panoramic view enhanced by the additional elevation. Continue climbing, following the red ring markings, which turn 90° to the left and then follow the foot of the cliffs you previously crossed for about 1 km, through an area of scree and boulders.
(5) At the junction with a path descending to the left towards Messein (Chevalet Rouge markings, which you should not follow), you can see the remains of old mining buildings on the right. Continue along the path following the Anneau Rouge markings. About 20 metres further on, on the right, you will see the old entrance to the Fontaine des Roches mine. Continue in the same direction.
(6) Leave the red ring markings when they branch off to the right and continue straight ahead, which will take you more directly back to the starting point at the cemetery car park (S/E).
