The dunes of Corralejo

The dunes of Corralejo in Fuerteventura offer a natural spectacle of incomparable beauty. Formed by volcanic eruptions and trade winds, these dunes of marine origin stretch for eight kilometres of fine white sand to the south of the town. Protected by conservation laws, they are a must-see destination for those seeking both the discovery of the seafront and the serenity of the dunes.

Description of the walk

(S/E) From the roundabout at the starting point (Corralejo bus stop), go down Calle Clavellina, then turn right onto Avenida Grandes Playas and left onto Calle del Viejo, which leads to the seafront.

(1) Turn right and follow the road for a few kilometres: initially urbanised, the coastline becomes increasingly wild. Opposite, the island of Lobos beckons, inviting you to visit it (departures from the port of Corralejo). You can stop at any time and turn back if you get tired, but the route is planned to take you to the surfers' hotels along the seafront on the sandy "Grandes Playas Corralejo". Reach Playa del Bajo. Located between the two hotels (Hotel Riu and Flow Beach Club), it is a pleasant setting for a rest.

(2) Then return to the starting point by following the route in reverse (S/E).
