The Woods of Roussigny

Like the neighbouring village of Gréez, the medieval development of Saint-Ulphace is linked to the settlement, between the Braye and the Saint-Ulphace stream, of a hermit monk in the6th century. The Hermitage of Saint-Ulphace led to the clearing of the surrounding land and the settlement of Christianised populations, followed by the establishment of the parish, first mentioned in 802.

Description of the walk

Start at the church square; parking spaces are available behind the church.

(S/E) From the church, head down into the village on the D94 (passing in front of the Grand Monarque), and continue straight on the D94bis towards Soizé.

(1) After the lake, turn right onto Rue de l’Espérance. After the cross, continue for 150 metres.

(2) Take the path on the right at the junction and then immediately left, then head up through the woods to the road.

(3) Turn left and continue for 500 metres. Take the path opposite at the bend. You’ll reach a junction on the road towards La Champinollière.

(4) Head right. At Les Bassetières, take the path on the left.

(5) Pass Les Poupardières (viewpoint over the Perche hills). (At the road, there is a 6.5-kilometre alternative route branching off to the right). Otherwise, continue left for 600 metres.

(6) Towards La Chenellerie (stud farm), turn right. At La Rougerie, head left until you reach the road.

(7) Turn left onto the road and join the D126 after Les Éperviers. Turn right (take care) towards La Tuilerie.

(8) Follow the dirt track to the left to Les Trouintières and turn left again onto the D338.7 until you reach the edge of the woods before La Péchotière.

(9) At the bend, turn right into the woods. At the junction, turn right along the edge of the woods until you reach the junction before the road (viewpoint).

(10) Continue all the way to the left into the woods. After 1 km, at the junction, head down to the right.

(11) At the edge of the woods, turn left (viewpoint). Leave the woods and head down the road opposite until you reach the D94bis.

(12) At the crossroads, take the path opposite that climbs towards La Grande Miltière and rejoin a junction passed on the way out.

(4) Take the small road on the right to the D94bis. Follow it to the left to return to the village at the original junction.

(1) Continue to the right and return to the car park (S/E).
