The hilltop village of Saint-Julien-le-Montagnier

Located on a hilltop at an altitude of 580 metres, overlooking the plain, the historic old village of Saint-Julien-le-Montagnier offers a superb panorama of the Durance valley, the Verdon mountains, the Montagne de Lure and, on a clear day, Mont Ventoux.

Description of the walk

Departure from the Saint-Pierre neighbourhood, at the intersection of Rue de Terdobbiate and Chemin des Mayons.

(S/E) From the Saint-Pierre neighbourhood, follow Chemin des Mayons through the hamlets of La Jaufrette, Les Mayons and Sainte-Anne.

(1) At the junction with the GR®99, turn right onto it, cross the plain, then the D35 with caution, then climb up opposite, still following the GR®99. After a sharp left turn, the GR® arrives at the old village of Saint-Julien le Montagnier. The path leads to a small square.

(2) Turn right between two houses and climb towards the church. Cross the village and pass through the Porte de Gourdane.

(3) Turn right and descend along the Chemin de la Croix for 140 m, then turn left and follow the Chemin sous la Fontaine for 1,200 m.

(4) Cross the D9 with caution, follow the Chemin du Moulin opposite for 150 m, turn right into the Traverse du Camping Municipal to return to the centre of Saint-Pierre. At the roundabout, turn left and follow Rue de Terdobbiate to the car park (S/E).
