Park in the car park near the summit of Ménez Hom.
No signposts.
(S/E) From the car park, take the path covered in vegetation. Follow it downhill in a south-westerly direction, keeping your eyes on the summit called Hielc'h (298m), which is dominated by a wooden pole with an anemometer and a small solar panel. Continue straight downhill, crossing a side path, until you reach a flat area.
(1) Go around the summit on the left, climb up a wide rocky path with a strip of heather in the middle, then leave a path that descends steeply to the south-west.
(2) You will easily reach the summit, where you can enjoy views of Douarnenez Bay and Cap de la Chèvre, one of the points of the Crozon Peninsula.
Now begin the descent (watch out for sharp rocks), passing back through the flat area.
(1) Follow the same path you took on the way up for about a hundred metres. At the crossroads, take the discreet path on the left through the vegetation. Join a path descending from the right (GR®37).
GR®37 markings (yellow and red): very discreet.
(3) At the crossroads of paths, with a first windbreak in sight, continue straight ahead along a path that descends into the vegetation, heading north, until you reach a crossroads (indicating Route de Lost ar Run VTT5). View of the Aulne.
(4) At the entrance to the pine forest (Forêt Communale de Trégarvan), ignore a trail on the right and continue downhill opposite to follow the GR®37 (indicated Route de Lost ar Run VTT5). Cross a pine forest where you can still see traces of the 2006 fire. You will reach a small road.
No markings.
(5) Just before the road, take a sharp right turn onto a forest path and climb first along the edge of the forest and then through the undergrowth in a south-easterly direction until you reach a junction with a wide track. Note several areas of small peat bogs along the way.
(6) Turn left and follow this wide path between pine trees, heather and gorse. Note the large number of dead trees. When you reach a barrier, ignore the path that descends to the left and continue for about 100 metres.
(7) At the double mountain bike signpost for "route panoramique 6 et les Hauts de Dineault 7", ignore anotherPR® signpost and continue straight ahead, turning right at the mountain bike signpost for 7. Follow this wide path and then leave it when it turns left (protected area sign) just before a barrier (fire brigade access).
(8) At the barrier and the sign prohibiting motorised vehicles, continue straight ahead into an area lined with deciduous trees. Leave a path on your left that descends towards a water catchment area and turn right to enter an area of coniferous trees and reach a signpost.
GR®37 markings (yellow and red).
(9) First turn left then right and climb into an area of pine trees also marked by old fires. To the east, there is a vast panorama of the Châteaulin Basin and its wind farms. The path becomes more stony (Armorican sandstone) and winds its way through the bare moorland.
(10) At a small pass, leave the path leading to a summit (267m) on your right and turn left to begin the steepest climb along a stony path.
Reach Le Yed, the main summit of Ménez Hom at 330m. Panoramic view of the Aulne valley, the new Térenez Bridge and, on a clear day, the city of Brest. Descend to return to the car park (S/E).
