The Saint Louis Neuweg neighbourhood and its discovery trail

On the edge of the Petite Camargue Alsacienne is a quiet residential area that is part of the Saint-Louis conurbation: Neuweg. It is well worth a visit and, at the end of the walk, you will come to a small forest where you can learn more about water along a discovery trail.

Description of the walk

The hike starts at the intersection of Rue de Schlierbach and Rue Saint-Pierre. There are plenty of parking spaces available along these two streets.

(S/E) Opposite Rue de Schlierbach, turn right into Rue Saint-Pierre. Pass the Domaine des Prés. Take the next street on the right towards the Church of Saint-Pierre and go around it on the left. Continue straight ahead to the end of the street. At the T-junction, turn left, cross the road carefully at the pedestrian crossing, then turn immediately right into Rue de Thann. Continue along this street until you reach the stop sign. Cross the road carefully and continue straight ahead into Rue du Maréchal de Villars.

(1) Follow the street as it zigzags, then take a dirt road that turns left just before the house with the number 14. In the park, take the first path that turns right towards a children's playground, then right again to leave the park. At the end of the road, at the T-junction, turn left. About 50 m further on, continue straight ahead into Rue des Faisans. Ignore Rue des Alouettes.

(2) At the end of the street, continue straight ahead on the road with a speed limit of 30 km/h. After a right-hand bend, ignore a road that turns left and goes under a bridge. Continue straight ahead to leave the town; the tarmac gives way to dirt track. At the next Y-junction, continue diagonally to the right, following the red triangle signs. After a few hundred metres, turn left at the T-junction towards a bench and a memorial stone.

(3) At the bench, turn right and follow the blue ring signs. At an information sign at a T-junction, turn left to stay on the edge of the forest. A little further on, turn right onto a wider dirt and gravel path. Follow this path for over a kilometre.

(4) Go through a gate and, just before you reach the departmental road, take a small signposted path on the right that enters the forest. Continue to a crossroads at a fenced-off pumping station. Turn right. Just after a second pumping station, ignore a path that turns left. About 200 m further on, turn diagonally left onto a marked path. At a small Y-junction, turn left. Continue until you leave the forest.

(5) When you leave the forest, stop following the Anneau Bleu signs and continue straight ahead on a path through the fields. When you reach the village, turn left and walk along the back of the houses. At the end of this path, join a paved road and continue straight ahead on Rue du Maréchal Ney. At the crossroads, cross the road carefully using the pedestrian crossing and continue straight ahead into Cour du Maréchal Belle-Isle. When you reach a square with parking spaces, continue diagonally to the left along a path between houses numbered 9 and 18.

(6) At the next crossroads, continue straight ahead, crossing the road carefully at the pedestrian crossing, and head towards a building, crossing a courtyard. Opposite the building, turn left. At the T-junction, back on the road, turn right. Then take the second road on the left, towards the Petite Camargue nursery school. Cross Square Edouard Spinhirny, passing between the nursery school and the community centre.

(7) At a crossroads in the park, turn right to go alongside a basketball court and then the École Élémentaire on your left. After passing it, turn left to join the Route Départementale, where you will need to turn right towards the Hôtel de Ville. At the four-way intersection, turn right towards Blotzheim onto Rue de l'Aéroport. Cross the road carefully and continue on the opposite pavement. Turn left onto the third street, Rue des Bleuets. At the end of this street, at the T-junction, turn right to return to your starting point (S/E).
