The seaweed harvesters' trail at Goas Lagorn

Before or after a refreshing dip in the sea at the large beach of Goas Lagorn, this is a very short loop with a slight elevation gain, exploring the old path once used by seaweed harvesters. Reed beds, ferns, pine undergrowth, sunken paths, rocky outcrops and superb views of the sea await you!

Description of the walk

Start from the car park at Goas Lagorn beach, in Beg Léguer.

Red and white markings

(S/E) Go to the end of the car park (north) and take the small road that passes in front of a sign for "Vallée de Goas Lagorn". At a fork, take the left-hand road (do not follow the signs for vehicles). At the second fork immediately after, turn left again and go downhill. Ignore a small path coming from the right and pass a sign for "Plage de Goas Lagorn".

Yellow signposts

(1) Take a path on the right that starts at the foot of a small rock on the right-hand side (do not cross the stream on the footbridge). Walk along a reed bed on your left.

(2) At the corner of a meadow on the left, leave the path and turn right onto a trail (be careful to spot this turn). Climb a flight of steps and continue uphill on the trail surrounded by ferns. Turn left onto the path, which soon gives way to a sunken lane under chestnut and beech trees: this is the old seaweed gatherers' path.

(3) When the path is blocked by vegetation, climb a flight of steps on the right. Continue on a path through the ferns. Go through a chicane and turn right then left to take a second chicane. Pass at the foot of a large pine tree, climb a flight of steps and you will come to a rocky outcrop (as you go forward, there is a beautiful view of the sea).

No signposts

(4) Atthe entrance to the chaos, facing the sea, take a faint path on the left. The path soon gives way to a trail through ferns (a short grassy section). Leave a small building on your left and rejoin a wide path. At a T-junction, follow a track-like lane to the right and walk alongside houses on your right.

(5) Come out onto a paved road and follow it downhill to the right. At the bottom (entrance to a private estate on the right), take a gravel path on the left. Descend between the gorse and under the pine trees and make a hairpin turn to the right. Go down a staircase, come out onto a road, follow it to the right and quickly return to the car park (S/E).

Notes

In dry weather, good sports shoes are sufficient for this very short hike.

Water, public toilets and a bar-restaurant are located near the beach car park (towards the south).

In summer, the beach car park fills up quickly... Don't hesitate to set off early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

A detailed map is required (at least the one accompanying this description).

Alternative route:
At the rocky chaos (4), you can continue on thePR®® marked in yellow, which branches off to the right and descends steeply. At the bottom (small car park), turn left and climb back up to the large beach car park (S/E).

Hike completed by the author in this form on 30 June 2019, in various sections and with various variations, around twenty times between July 1982 and July 2014.

Worth a visit

- Superb views of the sea.
- Sensitive natural area of the Goas Lagorn Valley, whose wet meadows are maintained by eco-grazing with goats and Breton Pie Noir cows.
- Sunken paths, fern undergrowth.
- Rocky chaos (4).

This hike can be rounded off with a refreshing dip at Goas Lagorn beach (lifeguards on duty in July and August).
