Start in Thilay, Place de l’Église.
(S/E) Turn into Rue Eva Thomé (on the right opposite the church), turn left at the Fork in the road into Rue Émile Faynot, then continue along the Transsemoisienne to reach the old Naux railway station (footbridge closed since March 2025).
(1) Head left towards the old Moulin de la Gire, walk past it and follow the Ruisseau de la Gire to the Route Forestière de la Dauphinée (tarmac).
(2) Turn left to cross to the right bank of the stream and immediately take a small path on the left. Continue, always keeping to the path on the right, until you reach some boulders.
(3) Turn right towards the Route Forestière (elevation 405).
(4) As you approach the forest road, head down to the left. The path winds through several hairpin bends; at the third bend, turn right to reach the source of a small stream (a tributary of the Gire), which you cross via a small wooden bridge.
(5) Continue straight ahead until you reach the Route Forestière des Éteignères.
(6) Turn right, heading south-west, between forest plots 167 and 168 (route not shown on maps). Continue to a small ditch marking the boundary between the municipalities of Thilay and Monthermé.
(7) Cross this ditch and head to the right to follow the boundary upwards (not shown on maps). The path veers left and joins an ascending path. Follow it to the right to reach the Roc La Tour site.
(8) Turn left, heading south-west, and follow the GR® down to a junction of paths on the edge of the state-owned forest.
(9) Turn left, change direction twice, then carry on straight ahead (north-east). Cross the Chemin de la Source du Charnois on your right and pass the source of the Ru de Desnigel, which lies slightly below. Continue north-east and head uphill. At the top of the climb, you’ll reach a junction.
(10) Take the path leading down to the right. Reach the Route Forestière des Éteignères and follow it to the right. Turn right again at the next junction (elevation 217). Stay on the GR® which heads off to the right until you reach the Chemin de la Source du Charnois (elevation 209).
(11) Leave the GR® here, heading left onto a gently sloping path. At the next two junctions, turn right to reach Thilay cemetery.
(12) Walk round the cemetery on the left and head for the cemetery gate. With your back to the gate, head straight ahead towards a rocky path that leads down to the war memorial.
(13) Take Rue du Moulin straight ahead, then turn right onto Rue Eva Thomé to reach the Naux car park below the footbridge (S/E).
