Starting point: Thilay Church
(S/E) From the church, take Rue Eva Thomé, then immediately turn left onto Rue de la Motte until you reach the war memorial. Turn onto Rue de la Roche, then very quickly turn left onto a path that climbs towards the cemetery.
(1) Facing the cemetery porch, head to the right to go round it until you reach the rear entrance.
Turn right, then take the first path on the left (crossing a small stream over a concrete slab).
At the first junction, head down to the left. The forest track runs above the Sources Blossette stream and joins the Blossette to Naux track.
(2) Ignore all signposting and head left between two pastures, heading north-west along a forest track.
Reach the path that runs along the edge of the state-owned forest, recognisable by its ditch and some markings on the trees.
(3) Turn left and keep heading in the same direction for as long as possible, taking care not to veer to the right after crossing a ditch. The path curves to the left, then branches off to the right before reaching a crossroads.
(4) Turn right, following the GR® signposts to the Roc la Tour site. Before exploring this remarkable site, take note of your bearings for the rest of the route.
(5) Do not continue north-west on the GR®, but start heading downwards, south-south-east, along a wide path, keeping an eye out for a small track on the left which you’ll come across very quickly; this runs alongside an administrative boundary (ditch). After 300 m, a path on the left takes you towards the boundary of some forest plots, with a conifer plantation on the left and a deciduous forest on the right.
Descend to the Route Forestière des Éteignères.
(6) Cross the forest road and take the path opposite until you reach the source of a small stream (a small wooden footbridge over the stream or its bed, depending on the season). Walk uphill for 30 m, ignore the path leading uphill to the left, head downhill to the right and, after two hairpin bends, join the Ruisseau de la Gire.
(7) Head down to the right, pass by the Moulin de la Gire, and continue in the same direction down to the Transemoisienne and the site of the former Naux railway station.
(8) Turn left onto the Transemoisienne, pass the confluence of the Ruisseau du Nantanru and the Semoy, then take the first path on the right to join the RD31 near the Pont de Nohan.
(9) Head right towards the bridge, cross it, then turn left immediately. At the start of the track, climb up the embankment to the right and continue to the Chemin de Nohan.
(10) Climb up the embankment opposite and continue along a lovely path overlooking the Semoy on the Crête des Dames de Semoy: this path is shown on OpenStreetMap Hiking and on the IGN map at a high zoom level. Reach a first viewpoint, then a second: views of Nohan, the ridge of Linchamps Castle and Newet, in the Hautes Rivières district.
(11) Take a small path on the right and head back down to a main track. Cross this track, pass under a high-voltage power line and descend to the Ruisseau de Narbruay.
(12) Head back up the opposite side, then turn right to join the RD131 at a hairpin bend. Follow it down to the right, take the left-hand bend and, at the next junction, turn left onto the D31 towards the bridge, which you cross to return to the church (S/E).
