Description of the route

From Bourdeau, take the D538 and drive to Saou. Park in the school car park.

Mountain bike trail no. 1.

(S/E) From Saou, head straight on the D136 towards the forest. Turn right, then right again towards Château d’Eurre, until you reach the first junction after Chantebise.

(1) Turn left onto the Route du Roc. Cross a road and continue for about 50 metres.

(2) Follow the track to the left until you reach the crossroads.

(3) Leave the track and walk along the right-hand side of the campsite. Pass Pas de Lestang and come out onto the D70.
(4) Turn left onto this road to reach Le Pertuis.

(5) Follow the road to the right, then, at the next bend, continue left onto the cycle path. You’ll come to a crossroads. Turn right and follow the path for a few metres until you reach a fork.

(6) Turn left to reach La Prade. Cross the wide track.

(7) Turn right onto it and join the road at the Les Sables Blancs car park.

(8) Follow the road on the left and head into the heart of the forest to the Auberge des Dauphins (end of the road).

(9) Follow the path straight ahead, lined with Atlas cedars, pass the Grande Combe track, then turn right and cross the ford to reach the Halte Équestre.

(10) Follow the track, cross the concrete bridge. Turn right, then left onto the signposted path in the Auberge grounds, then cross the Vèbre again and follow it along the left bank to the Pont de Pézillet.

(11) Cross the road and the car park and turn left onto the path towards Le Pertuis.

(6) Continue in the opposite direction to the outward journey. At the road, turn right towards Le Pertuis.

(5) Cross the bridge and turn left onto the D136 until you reach the campsite entrance.

(12) Go straight ahead (ignore the campsite access road) and return to the junction you passed on the way out.

(3) Turn right, heading in the opposite direction to the outward journey, and follow the track to Chantebise. Return to the original fork.

(1) Turn left onto the small road leading to the old ball bearing factory, then right onto Rue de l'Houme to return to the car park (S/E).

A lovely walk that takes you through Saou and past the Auberge des Dauphins along beautiful paths at the foot of the cliffs and through the Saou forest, with no real difficulties
The only slight concern was the various fords, as there was much more water 72 hours earlier... But we need water, so we took our shoes off for a good cause
