Park at Pont Romano in the village of Nancroix.
(S/E) Just behind Pont Romano, the trail starts very steeply into the forest. The climb is very steep, so don't hesitate to take a few breaks. Reach the first fork near the edge of the Crase de la Teppe d'Aval (avalanche corridor).
(1) Continue upwards; there is a sign indicating the lake. Higher up, the trail crosses the Crase beneath the gypsum cliffs. The slope here is very steep and the view finally opens up. You will arrive at Lac de l'Étroit, nestled in a hollow at the foot of Pointe du Friolin. From here, you can look out over the entire Peisey valley and enjoy what is probably one of the most beautiful views of the Mont Pourri massif. In good weather, the Italian side of Mont Blanc also seems very close.
(2) The descent begins with... an ascent, as you have to pass the Étroit hill before descending to the Arc mountain pasture. You then reach the Grandes Baraques. From the hill, the view opens up widely onto the north face of Bellecôte.
(3) At the chalets, the path is well marked for the descent into the valley and quickly rejoins the forest.
Don't hesitate to take a short detour to the Palais de la Mine, as the ruins and educational trail are well worth a visit.
(4) From the Palais de la Mine, follow theGR®5to return to Pont Romano (S/E).
