Circular walk from the Chapelle des Vernettes, starting at La Chénarie

A lovely circular walk through the Ruisseau de Poncet valley, passing through the Caro Blanc forest and the Vernettes Chapel.
There are a few fairly steep climbs, but you’ll be rewarded with a lovely view halfway through the walk.

Description of the walk

Start from La Chénarie.

(S/E) Continue northwards until you reach a Fork in the road.

(1) Turn right to follow the stream on your right. Leave the road at the first bend and take a path straight ahead. Follow this path as it enters the Caro Blanc Forest and joins a road after a series of hairpin bends.

(2) Turn left and leave the road again at the next bend to rejoin a path that will take you to a ford across the Ruisseau de Poncet.

(3) Cross the ford and continue along the path until you reach the Chapelle des Vernettes.

(4) In front of the chapel, follow the path down towards La Chénarie. Join a wider track and continue to the right. Once at the Fork in the road, head left onto a path that descends across the fields to reach Pracompuet.

(5) Walk through the hamlet between the old houses to reach the banks of the Ruisseau du Poncet, which you’ll follow until you return to La Chénarie at the car park at (S/E).

Hello,
we did this snowshoe route yesterday. It took us 3 hours and 30 minutes, and it’s well suited to snowshoes. Overall, with the directions provided and the numerous signposts, it’s not difficult to follow the route. Even in this snowy season, it’s possible to visit Notre-Dame-des-Vernettes.

The only downside is that there are no signposts for the route through the hamlet of Pracompuet, so you have to take a detour via the pastoral road to reach La Chenarie
