Park next to the church in Irouléguy.
(S/E) Continue along this road heading north. You will soon reach a crossroads.
(1) Continue straight ahead on Rue Pikatoreko Bidea, ignoring the street on your right. Cross the Hiriburua neighbourhood and you will reach a Y-junction. Take the left fork, staying on the same street. Walk alongside the houses until you reach a five-way junction
Take the first road, D615, on the right and after a few metres you will come to a right-angled crossroads.
(2) Turn left towards a farm. Shortly after the farm, turn right onto the small path that climbs uphill (red earth then slabs). This climb on slabs is long and quite difficult due to the steep gradient. You will come to a crossroads.
(3) Turn left. Just after a hairpin bend, you will come to a crossroads.
(4) You can take the well-marked path on the left, which climbs less steeply. It will take you back to point 598, which you will have to pass through anyway. For this hike, continue straight ahead and a little further on, leave the path that branches off to the right and climb straight up to the renovated barn (Ithola).
(5) Leave the main path and continue on the left along a small path just behind the barn. Continue climbing, and at elevation 598, you will come to the path you could have taken earlier. Continue climbing on this north-west path until you reach a pass, a crossroads where it joins the path coming from Saint-Martin d'Arosa
(6) Turn right onto the ridge and quickly reach the summit of Jara.
(7) Head straight ahead onto the Route du Jara. At the first bend, take the grassy path opposite (south-east). Make a loop northwards, with views of Baîgura and Bayonne, turn right and descend southwards to return to the road. Turn left and stay on this road until the next hairpin bend.
(8) Leave the road and go straight ahead, passing through a gate. Further down, turn right onto the path and rejoin the road.
(9) Keep going in the same direction. Follow the edge of the woods and, at the hairpin bend, enter the forest, staying on the road. Turn left again and return to the junction with the D615.
(10) Cross it and continue straight ahead to the Jauberriborda farm. Pass on the right and keep right at the next crossroads (altitude 352). Cross the vineyards, between two gates, and arrive at the first houses of Hiriburua.
(11) Turn left onto the road leading to the cemetery. At the crossroads, turn right and continue along this road. At the T-junction, turn right. Pass the wash house and return to the starting point of the loop.
(1) Turn left and follow the same route as on the way there to reach the church car park (S/E).
The return journey takes around 1 hour and 45 minutes
