Departure from the car park at Châtenois church, accessible via the D35 then Rue Saint-Georges.
(S) With your back to the south side of the church, go through a small gate in the ramparts, following the sign for "accès aux chemins de randonnées" (access to hiking trails). Pass through a small park to reach a concrete path leading uphill.
At the intersection above the church, turn right. Before reaching the houses, turn left uphill (there is a barrier).
See the Source du Jeriabrunne, a former place of worship.
(1) At a sharp bend, you will arrive at Place du1er Mai. Turn completely left to take the forest path.
(2) Continue to a kiosk (view of Ortenbourg Castle and Ramstein). Retrace your steps slightly to continue along a forest path towards Wick on the eastern slope, marked with red-white-red rectangles.
(3) After a few hundred metres, follow a small path branching off to the right, marked with a red cross (follow this to the summit of Hahnenberg).
At a forest path, first turn right then left to continue on the trail, which follows the Blue Ring trail for about 100 metres.
(4) Pass at the foot of Rocher du Maïstein, cut across a path and continue straight ahead, then at the three-way junction, turn left towards Hahnenberg summit.
Further on, cut across another path and continue straight ahead, following a few hairpin bends.
(5) At the summit, climb onto the metal platform to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view.
Continue along the ridge towards the south, following the Red Cross markings.
At the wide path opposite the fence of the Montagne des Singes park, take it to the right (Blue Ring markings), then after a few metres, turn left (still along the fence) to the Col de Rothenberg.
(6) Head towards the Moerel shelter, take the first path on the left before the shelter, towards Chapelle de l'Aigle (not marked), descending towards the south-west.
(7) Before reaching a path, turn left towards Wick Montagne des Singes, following the green cross markings. When you reach the Wick playground, turn left and continue for a few dozen metres.
(8) Leave the entrance building to Montagne des Singes on your left and head opposite, towards Châtenois on the eastern slope (marked with a red-white-red rectangle), and take the Route Forestière du Hahnenberg.
(9) At a fork, go down to the right towards Châtenois, following the blue ring markings, then turn right a second time. Further down, turn right towards Kintzheim.
When you reach the top of the vineyards, head downhill along a concrete path, with Kintzheim Castle in your sights.
(10) Before the village, turn left to stay in the vineyards (Chemin de Compostelle) and continue straight on to Châtenois (S/E).
