Description of the walk

Access: From Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, head towards Les Baux de Provence via Avenue Van Gogh and, after a small crossroads (well before Les Antiques), turn right onto the road leading to Lac des Peyrou and its dam (signposted). Park in the car park by the lake. (S).

PR®® signposting (yellow)

At the car park, facing the road you arrived on, turn right through the woods onto the path that joins the road you took to get to the dam.

Not marked

(1) Leave it quickly by taking a path on the left, which is paved at the beginning and climbs slightly. At the top of the climb, ignore a track on the left and continue straight ahead. Pass close to a farmhouse on the left.

(2) At the first crossroads, turn left. Admire the magnificent oak trees lining the track, which climbs slightly to a gate, which you go through. Ignore the two tracks on the right, before and after the gate. The path descends and then climbs again. Leave a path on the left and descend towards the Gaudre de Valample stream, which you cross (after rain, there is sometimes a little water).

(3) The path comes out onto a main track running perpendicular to it. Opposite, you will see a small path sloping away, which you should ignore. On the left, there are two possibilities, but take the track that turns at a right angle. Ignore a track on the right and continue straight ahead. Shortly afterwards, in a bend, the climb becomes steeper. Continue on this track that runs alongside the Gaudre de Valample until you reach a large hairpin bend.

Ignore the track and the path on the right in the bend. The track then climbs with a view down on the same track and, after another sharp right-hand bend, leads to another track. Note the buried cistern on the left at the intersection of the two tracks.

(4) Turn right. Continue along this good track, ignoring all the paths that branch off to the left and right. It leads to the ridge track through a gap between two rock faces.

GR®® 6 signposting (white and red)

(5) Turn left and stay on this track, which runs along the southern slope of the Alpilles.

(6) In a sharp bend, a path on the right with a steep climb leads to the top of a hill offering a beautiful view. Ignore it if you want to save your energy and continue on the track that descends to rejoin the forest. Leave a first path on the left, then a second one 200 metres further on (it joins the track you will take later on). Continue for about 100 metres.

(7) At the signpost, turn left and follow the track down into the valley. Further on, in a more open area, you will see a farmhouse (Mas de Gros). Stay on this track, keeping it in sight. Follow the wall of the property and go through a gate. You will come back to the road that led you to the lake. Turn right to return to the car park (E).

A pleasant hike with two children aged 3 and 7. It was a bit long for them but not too difficult (2½ hours in total). The last part is mostly downhill, making it a pleasant and easy hike for families or for getting back into shape. The forest section is quite nice, and the part along the GR6 balcony on the side of the Alpilles is the most beautiful part of this hike (between points 5 and 6). The return to the lake is great for cooling off after the walk.

A beautiful hike with superb views. It would be better to start the hike in reverse and walk back up the valley, as it is difficult to find the path indicated at the start and the path to reach the ridges.
Easy hike, accessible to all

Hello
A beautiful hike that is easy to follow with the downloaded map.
A small suggestion: it would be useful to specify that, for safety reasons due to the risk of fire, access to Lake Peirou, and therefore to the car park, is prohibited to motor vehicles between mid-May and the end of September.
As a result, you have to park in the Jewish cemetery car park, walk up and start the route at the point (1)
This was not a surprise to us.
However, we were surprised to see a motorbike on the circuit.

Disappointment at the start because the lake car park is not accessible due to fire risks, so you have to park at the Jewish cemetery car park 25 minutes away.
It took us 3 hours in total, including a break.
The trail is easy but climbs for a long time, which was a bit monotonous for the children at first. But then the balcony path is very pretty. And there's a beautiful view at point 6. We didn't see many people, but it's hot at the moment...

I actually combined this route with another one to make it longer, with a detour to see the rock with two holes. It was a very pleasant hike, covering a total of 12 km. The highlight was discovering Lake Peiroou. Everyone in my group enjoyed it.
Thank you for your directions, which could be simpler and clearer in some places.
Long live Visorando!

At point 2, which is much closer than shown on the map, we did not turn left because both paths had letterboxes and were therefore private property. We continued straight ahead and arrived at the Alpilles canal, which we followed for over a kilometre. It was very pretty and we did not regret it: two hours in total.
It is necessary to specify point 2 because, as there are no signs, it is not clear which path to take on the left!
