Start from the Les Antiques de Glanum car park in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.
Please note: paid parking from 10am to 6pm: €4 (2018).
(S/E) From the car park, cross the D5, then head down to the left towards Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, following the road.
After the bridge, turn right towards “Égalières”, passing in front of the Cloître Saint-Paul de Mausole. Follow the red and white markings ofthe GR®6along the Chemin des Carrières. Continue until you reach a wayside shrine.
(1) Turn right, following the sign for Saint-Clerg. Follow the botanical trail marked in yellow; it climbs gently, then rises a little more before joining the paved ridge road.
(2) Once on the road, turn right, then 10 metres further on, turn right again, following the ochre markings and the two inverted arrows of the botanical trail. Climb up to reach a hillock. Take the path on the left that goes downhill, then continue the descent along a wider track. You are still on the botanical trail, which leads back to the road you left earlier. Continue straight on to reach a large car park. Head straight towards the D5.
(3) Cross the road and head straight towards the path with small wooden barriers. You are now following yellow markings. A path coming from the right joins the trail 100m further on. Continue to the left to quickly reach a junction with theGR®® which descends to the right. Ignore theGR®® to the right and continue along the track, staying on theGR®®6route which winds along the ridges towards Saint-Étienne du Grès and Les Baux-de-Provence. After walking for about 1.5 km, you will notice a gap in the rocks on the right.
(4) Turn right and go through this gap to follow the path downwards. From here, there are no further markings. Follow this path down for about 350m until you reach a bend; a cairn on the right indicates a small path to follow.
(5) Turn right and follow this steep path, which leads down to the path you have just left. Once on the path, turn immediately right (orange cross on the tree) onto a new path, not very visible at first, but which becomes clearer further on. It starts with a stony descent, then becomes more grassy and wild. Further on, it joins theGR®®6.
(6) Turn left to continue the descent. When theGR®® reaches a gate (crossroads), go round it and you’ll arrive at a car park. Turn right towards the dam. It seems that at this point the signposting is either missing or very well hidden! In any case, you’ll arrive at Lac du Peiroou.
(7) Go round the lake on the right. The path moves away from the lake, climbs up through the rocks and veers to the right to reach a section fitted with cables and a few steps. Once past the chimney, head back down the path to the D5.
(8) Turn left and follow the left-hand side of the road (take care) to reach the car park at the start (S/E).
