Park around the Glanum site on the edge of the castle driveway in Saint-Rémy-en-Provence.
(S/E): From there, take the DFCI path that forms the Discovery Trail to the Rocher des Deux Trous. Continue along this path to Saint-Clerg and reach a crossroads at the highest point.
(1) Leave the small road on your right and take a fairly wide path on your left, which climbs quite steeply up a hill.
You will reach the Rocher des Deux Trous, which is clearly visible at the top of this climb.
Enjoy the panoramic view from Rocher des Deux Trous, a well-known landmark in this area.
(2) Retrace your steps for a few metres and turn left onto a fairly wide path towards the telecommunications tower opposite on the Plateau de la Caume. At the bottom of the short descent, join the road that supports theGR®®6.
(3) Turn left onto theGR®® and begin a short climb. At the next bend, leave theGR®® and take the path on the right that cuts across the next two or three bends. Take care on this path as it is steep and a little technical, making it challenging, but it avoids the road section.
You will quickly rejoin the road and the GR®®.
(4) Continue straight ahead, following the red and whiteGR®® markings; this fairly wideGR®® reaches the end of the Plateau de la Caume. At the pylon, continue to the left to reach the edge of the plateau.
Go back slightly and turn left to rejoin theGR®®, still on the ridge, to reach the Pas de l'Aigle.
(5) Continue along a narrower and sometimes very technical path with some tricky sections. Then, in a hollow, you will come to a cairn indicating the path downhill.
(6) Leave theGR®® here and turn right onto the path consisting of scree and a few fairly technical passages, but only for a short distance.
Reach the small plain, cross the bed of the Gaudre de Malaga stream and reach the Chemin de Beaume Rignolle.
(7) Do not take the wide DFCI path but the path on the right, continue and rejoin the Chemin de Beaume Rignolle a few hundred metres further on.
(8) Cross it and continue straight ahead on the small path that runs along a rocky ridge almost at its foot through fairly open vegetation and follow the few small hilly passages. You will rejoin the Chemin de Beaume Rignolle at a crossroads with a large Leyland cypress tree.
(9) Cross the track again and take this path, which is actually a shortcut marked by the passage of 4x4 vehicles. Join another narrower but well-marked path, which you should follow downhill to the right.
From there, it is a very pretty path resembling a private driveway, with cypress trees and diverse vegetation, which follows a small stream called Vallon des Amants and winds easily at the foot of the Plateau de la Caume and under the telecommunications tower, revealing a magnificent setting. Reach the beginning of a small valley.
(10) Enter this valley. Gradually, the path becomes wider and more passable, leading back to the Chemin de Beaume Rignolle, marked by a crossroads.
(11) Turn left onto the path that descends slightly to reach a road junction with a cistern.
(12) Go up this road, turning right to reach a hairpin bend just before thefirst crossroads you passed on the way there.
(1) Here, you have two options:
- retrace your steps to return via the discovery trail descending to the left and rejoin the Glanum site car park (S/E)
or
- continue left (as shown on the map) along the path leading up to Mont Gaussier via the ladder trail, as indicated on the signs, to reach Mont Gaussier.
(13) Here too, there are two possibilities:
- continue straight ahead along the Mont Gaussier ladder path on the ridge to descend into the valleys, but this section requires climbing skills and a head for heights . Hikers who are prone to vertigo should not take this path and should return to the previous crossroads. For others, take either the road or the discovery trail, both of which lead back to the Glanum car park (S/E)
or
- return via the same route to the previous crossroads (as shown on the map).
(1) Turn left onto the Discovery Trail to return to the Glanum Site car park (S/E).
