Park in the centre of Miribel-les-Échelles near the church and town hall
(S/E) To leave, take the small street that starts to the right of the town hall and passes behind it. The slope is very steep, so much so that a handrail has been installed to help pedestrians.
Follow the route marked with yellow signs. After a hairpin bend to the right, you can make a short detour to the Oratoire de Sévérine on the left (this detour has been included in the route).
Return to the road and continue left until the next intersection, near the Les Bourdons campsite.
(1) Turn left; the road opposite will be for the return journey. Walk 900 m to reach the intersection that leads to the Source de l'Écuelle. A quick detour to the left allows you to see this spring.
(2) Back on the main route, continue left, following the yellow markings and directional signs towards the Col des Mille Martyrs. Caution! The Miribel Forest is criss-crossed by numerous trails and paths that are not marked and do not necessarily lead anywhere.
The path to the pass turns right and continues north-northwest through the Miribel Forest. After about 1 km, you will come to a crossroads.
(3) Turn left (west). Finally, the forest path comes out at an elevation of 811 metres on a rural road (the IGN map is inaccurate).
(4) Turn left onto the road and enjoy the views of the western Chartreuse as you climb. Reach the place called La Ferme Michallat (870 m) and turn right. The Col des Mille Martyrs is only 300 m away.
(5) At the pass sign, you will intersect with the D28, which is a busier road than the previous one (many cyclists). Follow this road, turning left, for about 300 m.
(6) Shortly after the sign for "Col la Croix des Milles Martyrs" (884 m), take the path on the right which crosses the Bois de Carabotin and leads to the hamlet of Marfay.
(7) Return to the D28 in Marfay and turn left onto the road. Follow it downhill, ignoring the small road that branches off to the right, and continue until you reach an intersection with a path near a house.
(8) Turn right onto this path, which enters the forest. Follow the yellow markings (the IGN map is inaccurate here again), pass near the Dolmen de l'Antillière and then the Croix de Tempêtat, and continue straight downhill to reach a road. Take this road, turning right, and you will soon see the Balcon de Chartreuse campsite. Rejoin the original route
(1) Continue straight ahead down the slope that leads back to the car park (S/E).
