This hike starts from the top of the Roches Noires Express chairlift. Parking is available at the lower station of the chairlift, and tickets can be purchased on site.
(S) Take the track furthest to the left of the chairlift’s top station and head down towards the Col de La Traversette and the Fort de la Redoute Ruinée.
(1) At Col des Embrasures, follow the wider track which climbs towards the Fort, heading north-east. This will take you to Fort de la Redoute Ruinée.
(2) Go round the fort to the right (south) and head for the ‘Panoramic Experience’ metal footbridge for a breathtaking view.
(3) From there, you have two options:
- Retrace your steps and take the chairlift back down.
- Walk back down, following this path which leads back to La Rosière via Plan de l'Arc (see the route and description below).
To walk down, go past the top station of the Fort chairlift and turn right onto a path that winds its way down. At the various junctions, stay as close as possible to the chairlift line.
(4) At the junction, turn right. Pass under the chairlift line and emerge onto a track at a hairpin bend.
(5) Follow the track to the left, leaving the lower station of the Fort chairlift on your left. Continue along the track for a while and pass under the Plan du Repos chairlift line. Then turn left to reach the lower station of this chairlift.
(6) Continue south-west and cross the Plan de l'Arc leisure area. This will take you to the car park.
(7) Follow the track to Les Eucherts. Pass under the Petit Bois chairlift line and, at the junction, follow the road to the right.
(8) From Place des Eucherts, take the road on the right to head up towards the forest footpath. Ignore a road on the right. When the road bends to the right, go straight on along the footpath. At the end, go down a flight of steps on the left and you’ll come out onto the D1090.
(9) Follow the road to the right to the car park for the slopes and the Roches Noires chairlift (E)
