The end of the world

Hiking at the end of the world, a Jura retreat in the heart of the Côte d'Or! Majestic limestone cliffs gradually carved out by the Cozanne river.
Route through undergrowth and along cliff edges (no real danger as long as you stay on the path).

Description of the walk

From Beaune, take the D973 towards Autun. In the town of Nolay, park close to the information point (please note that parking near the information point is regulated, so leave it if necessary to find a space with no time limit).

(S/E) Leave Nolay on the GR®7 (red and white markings) and follow it for 3km to Cul de Fussey.

(1) At Cul de Fussey, leave the GR®7 and turn left onto the JM Boivin path (yellow markings).

(2) After descending towards Vauchignon, temporarily leave the JM Boivin path and climb right towards the Cul de Menevault waterfall.

(3) Go around the isolated waterfall and descend (possibility of not descending by following a well-marked path on the cliff edge, beautiful viewpoints, but be careful) to find the JM Boivin path.

(4) Follow it again to point 489 (sign).

(5) Shortly after leaving the D111f, leave the JMB trail on the right (yellow cross), which takes you up to the top of the cliff (do not go down the JMB trail). Continue as far as the Saint-Philippe chapel.

(6) From the chapel, walk to a viewpoint before coming back.
When back at the chapel, go straight down to Nolay on the right to the car park (S/E).

Departure and arrival at Cormot le grand; the paths are very well marked and the cliffs very beautiful.
Between points 2 and 3, I turned left towards the foot of the waterfall (completely dry) and from there joined the balcony path by a pretty climb, aided by a large rope, a very pretty passage that presents no difficulty, the weather being very dry.
The return to the plateau was in full sunshine.
There are no difficulties with the signposting, and it's impossible to get lost; at worst, follow the yellow signs.
A very busy route on this fine Sunday in October.

The explanations are a little brief, as the signposting is not always up to scratch.
But this walk is simply AMAZING and perhaps even the most beautiful in our region!

We'll be going there again without hesitation.

Personally, I cheated a bit to make it shorter and avoid the sections that were a bit too strenuous.
I'll try to suggest this variant on the site.

Beautiful hike. The only problem was that I wasn't lucky: at the end of the world, a group was set up with a sound system and slacklines all over the place. Not really what I'm looking for in a hike. So it was a bit crowded at the end of the world.

And I cheated a bit by leaving and returning to Cormot le Grand.

Very pleasant walk. Lovely views over the vineyards and villages (especially Touches). Rather easy. Varied. Little used because the summer season was coming to an end. A few "links" between waymarked paths: a little "twisted" or "twisted", on paths that aren't really paths (vineyard borders). Beware of dropping out after the GR7 on a path not shown on the IGN maps (no doubt a passage opened by hunters, of whom there are many in the area, just like the "game"). A well-deserved stop at the Château de Montaigu.

A very nice walk, but not to be done in very hot weather (above the cliffs) and to complete this day, a short visit to the castle of La Rochepot.

A very nice parish specific to Brittany with some lovely views. Take the path that's the least steep to get to the cirque du bout du monde. Hesitation on the way back. We left the site by taking the road we use most often and turned off at point 49 instead of 489. There are some lovely views.

Superb walk in the shade, ideal for hot weather. If possible, use the GPS to find your way more easily.

Superb walk, most of it shaded, magnificent scenery, one small downside: the signposts are sometimes difficult to see, especially after point 4, and you have to go back and forth to find the way, so please take the reviews into account.
I recommend this walk.

Lovely walk with some fine climbs. Most of the route is shaded. I can confirm that there are a few signposting difficulties after the visit to the cave (point 4). The path towards Nolay to the top of the cliff is poorly signposted. We had to go back and forth several times to find the way... with a bit of luck! It's a pity that the information given by other hikers is not taken into account so that the signposting can be improved. Otherwise, everything was pleasant.

Very nice walk, different environments (forest, cliff edge, countryside).
Difficulty taking the right path at points 3 and 4.

This hike should definitely be done with the help of the GPS, and in good weather, as there are quite a few sections in the undergrowth and on uneven ground all the same.
It's a very beautiful site and should perhaps be classed as a red hike in view of the height difference.
