Description of the walk

Park in the car park by the church in Hagondange.

(S/E) Cross the roundabout at the corner of the car park and head towards the woods between the houses.

(1) After 100 m, first pass under the bridge of the old railway line that used to supply the blast furnaces, then through a tunnel under the road. After 150 m, take the path on your left which climbs gently towards the back of the zoo. You’ll reach the far corner of the zoo.

(2) Turn left, then about a hundred metres further on, turn right. Follow the path until you reach a small incline. At the top of the incline, the path crosses another path at right angles.

(3) Take the straight path on the left heading due south until you reach another path at right angles, which you take to the right. When this path curves to the right, take the path leading down to the left. Before the end of the descent, the path turns to the right and climbs gently up a small valley

(4) Once you reach the top of the thermal water outlet (a concrete pipe), cross over the pipe and head south up the path on your left. Cross the forest road (marker 206) and continue along the path until it forms a hairpin bend.

(5) Follow the hairpin bend to the right and carry on until the path rejoins the forest road in a clearing.

Take the path on your left which slopes down slightly (running parallel to the forest road). When you’re almost at the edge of the woodland, follow the path that branches off to the right and runs along the edge of the woodland, without crossing the Ruissembeau.

(6) Carry on until you reach the edge of the golf course, with the stream on your left.

(7) Follow the path which climbs to the right, skirting the golf course until you come to a forest track.
Take this road to the right, heading due south, pass the 222 mark, and arrive at the lake. Walk round the lake on the right-hand side, then pass the public toilets and take thesecond path on the right.

(8) Carry on until you pass the spa complex buildings on your left.

(9) Carry on along a narrow path until you reach the third junction on the circular route.

(3) Turn left, following the path in the opposite direction to the outward journey, until you reach the second junction on the circular route.

(2) Here you have two options:
- Return to the car park by following the same route back as on the way there.
- Take the alternative route to the right, which leads back to the bridge under the road and to the car park (S/E).

The markings on the ground do not always correspond to those indicated: there are variations indicated on the ground but not on the map sheets.

A lovely walk on a sunny, warm day. The route runs almost entirely through the forest, so it’s in the shade.
The walk around the lake is pleasant but much busier than the rest of the route, especially on Sundays.
I started the route at the roundabout (near the LIDL), from where a path leads to the trail.

A lovely walk through this very busy forest. But the paths we’ve chosen are often quieter.

A lovely walk in the woods near the Amnéville Spa. You can avoid the centre and its crowds whilst enjoying the little lake.
