Description of the walk

To reach the farm from the south, enter Foug, cross the railway line and follow Rue du Général de Gaulle. Then turn left onto Rue Docteur Schneider and continue along Rue Luton. At the end, turn left onto Rue de Savonnières, pass under the N4 and continue to the Savonnières farm.

(S/E) Opposite the farm, turn right onto Rue de Savonnières and continue for about 300 m.

(1) Go up the path marked Anneau Vert on the left and reach a fork at the edge of the forest.

(2) Turn left onto a path parallel to the white road, which you will find at elevation 347. Follow it to the left for about 350 m.

(3) Turn right to follow the Tranchée de Grammont and continue along the Anneau Vert trail, which makes two consecutive turns, then continues straight ahead until you reach a T-junction with a stony path (elevation 280).

(4) Go up to the left and continue to the end of the path. Continue along the path that extends from there.

(5) Keep left at the fork and continue until you reach the Grande Tranchée at a turning area.

(6) Take the first path on the right to reach an old stone road that supports the GR®703, marked in white and red.

(7) Turn left and continue until you reach the large bend to the right.

(8) Leave the old road and turn left, leaving the GR®703.

(9) Enter the woods via the first line on the left between clearings 76 and 79 and rejoin the Grande Tranchée at a hunting lodge.

(10) Turn left.

(11) At the first crossroads, turn right and go down the stony path.

(12) Pass the Gros Chêne spring and continue until you leave the woods and rejoin the Route de Savonnières.

(13) Take Rue de Savonnières on the left to return to the Savonnières farm (S/E).

Practical information

Hike to be done outside the hunting season.

In the nearby area

On your way, you will walk along the old stone road that was the former N60, passing through Toul and Ménillot and linking Nancy to Orléans. It was also a royal or imperial road.

When you are on the GR®703 on the descent, don't miss an old lime tree that shelters a statuette representing Saint-Claude.

On the way back down, you will find the source of the Gros Chêne (13).

In May, you can find lily of the valley and wild asparagus here. With a bit of luck and silence, you may encounter some game.
