Car park at the church in Vendin-lès-Béthune.
(S/E) From the car park, join the path running alongside the church and follow it to the left to reach the Chemin du Cavalier.
(1) Follow it to the left. Reach the first road and cross it, then cross a second road to reach the Étangs du Vert-Bleu. Walk along the long pond on your right, ignore the first footbridge on the right and reach a second footbridge.
(2) Cross it to reach the Chemin Vert, which you follow to the left. It turns right and reaches a junction.
(3) Take the D181E6 on the left. At the T-junction, turn left and reach another T-junction. Turn right, then immediately left to head straight towards Château de Werppe and find some peace and quiet. Reach a crossroads.
- Here, you can take a short detour to see the remains of the castle (100 metres to the right).
(4) Turn left. A small winding road takes you to the banks of the Clarence. Follow it for a while, then cross it via the first footbridge. The path continues alongside the Clarence for a short while, then moves away from it to reach the D70 (Rue des Prés) at a wayside shrine on the right.
(5) Turn left, then immediately right onto Rue de Lenglet, passing the Manoir Saint-Michel on your left.
You’ll reach the corner of the cemetery. Leave the road here and take the small lane opposite (Ruelle Rincheval) until you reach the D182.
(6) Follow it to the right. Pass the British cemetery, then the school, and reach a junction.
(7) Take Rue de l'Égalité opposite, which is a dead end. At the end, turn right to cross the cemetery (open at 9am in winter, 8am in summer), passing to the right of the church. At the exit, follow the road to the left and you will soon reach the Clarence. Cross the bridge.
(8) Immediately turn right onto the path running alongside it. You’ll reach a three-way junction; turn left (with the ditch on your right). At the junction, continue straight ahead until you reach a T-junction.
(9) Turn left and then immediately right onto Rue du Cohen. At the junction, go straight ahead.
500 metres further on, you will find a wide path on the right (hiking signpost on the left).
(10) Follow this path to the right to reach the D182.
(11) Cross it and take the path opposite (dangerous crossing). At the junction, continue straight ahead, then turn right to reach Oblinghem. The path turns left. Ignore the first street on the right and reach a junction.
(12) Turn left onto Rue du Moulin, which leads up to the heights of Oblinghem. Ignore the two streets on the right (including Rue des 12 Pieds: that would be a lot of shoes to clean!). A little further on, you’ll reach a three-way junction.
(13) Turn right onto Rue du Haut Marais and follow it for about 400 m. When it bends sharply to the right, leave it and take Chemin des Mineurs on the left, which leads back to Chemin du Cavalier. Follow it to the right for 50 m and return to the original fork.
(1) Turn left towards the church for 100 metres, then turn onto a path on the right to pass through the small park at Vendin. After turning left twice, you will return to the starting point (S/E).
