Lanzo d'Intelvi - Rifugio Murelli

This stage is entirely in Italy but very close to Switzerland, particularly at Erbonne. You will walk along the Sentiero delle Trincee, a historic trench trail dating back to the First World War. This will also be your last opportunity to look out over Lake Lugano.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: From Lake Maggiore to Lake Como

Description of the walk

(S) From the Belvédère hotel, head south until you reach the end of Via Poletti. At the Milano hotel, take the street on the left. Pass the post office and continue until you reach a roundabout.

(1) At the roundabout, continue south and follow the signs for Campione d'Italia. Drive through the village, stay on Viale Campione d'Italia until you reach Strada Provinciale 13, shortly after the restaurant "Grotto Dogana".

(2) At the intersection with the SP13, cross and head for the car park, where the Sentiero delle Trincee (Trench Trail) begins. Take this beautiful trail and reach the old barracks known as "le Barrache".

(3) Stay on the Sentiero delle Trincee and continue until you reach a crossroads.

(4) Head south-east for about 20 metres and cross the "Monte Generoso - Crocette" trail.

(5) Cross the "Monte Generoso - Crocette" and continue south on the Sentiero della Transumanza to return to the hamlet of Orimento.

(6) Cross Orimento and head south. After a steep descent, follow the signs to Erbonne.

(7) At the north-eastern exit of the village, turn right and pick up a new path that heads south-east. Walk to the next fork.

(8) Take the right-hand path and descend towards a small road and Pian delle Alpi, close to a car park and picnic area.

(9) From Pian delle Alpi, take the SP5 for about 80 m towards the south-west. Turn left onto the path that leads to Rifugio Prabello.

(10) At the intersection with the Casasco military track, abandon the direction towards Rifugio Prabello. Turn completely east and follow this track slightly downhill to a new crossroads.

(11) Leave the Strada Militare and turn right to reach Colma Crocetta.

(12) From Colma Crocetta or Colma di Schignano on Swiss maps, continue in the same direction, leaving a track on your left. You will soon reach Colma di Binate (a few buildings).

(13) From Colma di Binate, rejoin the track that crosses Colma Crocetta. After a final climb, you will reach the old Rifugio Binate, which is already visible.

(14) From the old Rifugio Binate, take the track heading south until you reach a crossroads.

(15) Leave the Monte San Bernardo trail on your left. Temporarily leave the trail that continues to the right. Continue on the shortcut to rejoin the trail 300 m further on. Back on the trail, head to Colma dei Murelli and the eponymous mountain hut. (E)

How do you do?
Thanks for the information.
I'm replacing the Rifugio Binate with the Rifugio Murelli, which is on the route.
Best regards,
Dominique

Hello,
The Binate refuge has been closed for a long time. It would be better to indicate the Prabello refuge or the Murelli refuge as places to stay.

Best regards.
