Crêt Coquet and Le Signal circular loop starting from Hautecour
This short circular loop above Hautecour climbs up to the mountain pastures, where the snow covers gentle slopes that are pleasant to walk on, as you can make your own track pretty much wherever you like. The view, particularly from the Signal, is exceptionally sweeping, stretching all the way to the Écrins.

Grand Naves – Nant du Beurre Mountain Hut
A magnificent, forgotten valley in the southern Beaufortain. The hike offers varied panoramic views across the entire Vanoise, from the Col de la Madeleine to the Mont Blanc massif and the Lauzière range.
Animal tracks (foxes, wolves, etc.) are not uncommon here.
From Aime la Plagne to Belle Plagne via Mont Jovet
This hike can be done in a single day, but by taking your time, a short two-day trek allows you more time to admire the magnificent views of the mountains and valleys of the Vanoise and Tarentaise, as well as Mont Blanc. Doing it over two days gives us time to rest and take in these breathtaking landscapes. The climbs are relatively challenging and the ridge walk offers dizzying yet unforgettable experiences.
Chalet de l'Econdu - Chalet des Arolles
Another long stage offering the chance to discover Lake Saint-Guérin.
Col de l’Arc – Refuge du Logis des Fées
It’s hard to say much about this section, as we completed the whole of it in driving rain and cloud. The route is challenging and stony, with numerous herds of livestock and detours… But it remains so beautiful despite everything. The climb up the Bellachat is less difficult than it looks. The landscape is actually very varied: there’s a lot of rocky terrain on the ascent of the Bellachat, with steep cirques all the way to the Lacs du Loup, where the mountain pastures take over before giving way to the Cirque du Colomban, only to return near the Refuge du Logis des Fées.
La Grande Rochette via the Colorado chairlift
The Colorado chairlift in La Plagne operates during the summer. It provides access to the summit of the Grande Rochette with a gentle ascent. From there, you can admire the magnificent south face of the massif.
Logis des Fées mountain hut – Lac du Cheval Noir
Fancy a goat’s path? You’re in for a treat. Whilst the climb to the Col de la Madeleine is very smooth going, the path leading to the Col du Cheval Noir from the Grande Combe is more akin to trail running. It’s a difficult climb, sometimes requiring you to get down on all fours, with your hands almost constantly in use, but it’s nonetheless safe if you tackle it without rushing. Camping by the Cheval Noir lakes promises complete solitude.
Arêches Alpine Refuge – La Ravoire
Second stage of the Tour du Grand Mont, passing via the summit. Starting from the mountain hut at Arêches.
A long stage with two steep descents, but superb views from the summit of the Grand Mont and a magnificent finish overlooking the Valley of the Seven Lakes.
La Ravoire – Arêches Alpine Refuge
First (easy) stage of a two-day tour of the Grand Mont.
A well-marked path forming part of the Tour du Beaufortain.
Magnificent views of Mont Blanc from the Col de la Bâthie
Chalet des Arolles - Molliessoulaz Lodge
Another long stage between the Chalet des Arolles and the hilltop village of Molliessoulaz.
Alpine pastures and waterfalls of Valmorel
A short hike with moderate elevation gain, suitable for a family outing with young children. The route takes you through working mountain pastures, offering beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, and passes by the foot of three stunning waterfalls.
