Lac des Blanchets and Roc du Diable from Belle Plagne

This half-day hike is easy for most of the route but presents some difficulty during the (optional) ascent of the Roc du Diable. The rest of the route is mostly on paths prepared for mountain machinery, so there are no particular difficulties. There is a beautiful panoramic view from the top of the Roc du Diable (2,426 m). This hike is not signposted, so it is recommended that you use the app for certain sections.

Description of the walk

The starting point is at the lower station of the Roche de Mio cable car. You can park in the various car parks nearby or use the shuttle buses depending on the season.

(S/E) Head south-east and follow the path to the playground. Then take a wide path on the left that climbs up to a crossroads.

(1) Continue straight ahead until you reach a path under a rock-lined water retention basin.

(2) Follow this path to the left, parallel to the Blanchets chairlift line. At a fork, turn right onto a ski slope and join a wide ridge path.

(3) Follow this path to the left and join Lac des Blanchets at the upper station of the chairlift of the same name.

(4) Pass under the Ouillis chairlift line, near its upper station, and take a path that heads west towards Roc du Diable.

(5) At the crossroads, you have two options:
- To avoid climbing the Roc du Diable, descend to the right and immediately join the wide path at the intersection (3) taken earlier.
- Otherwise, as shown on the map, continue straight ahead and take a steep path to the summit of Roc du Diable (panoramic view).

(6) Descend via the same path in the opposite direction.

(5) Descend on the left and immediately rejoin the wide path taken on the way up.

(3) Follow the path on the left (north-west). Leave the Forcle reservoir on your right and reach the Col de la Grande Forcle.

(7) Take the first path on the right and descend north-northeast parallel to a ski lift line.

(8) At the crossroads, continue north on a faint path that climbs between two mounds of earth and descends towards Belle Plagne. Cross another faint path and further on you will find a track. Follow this track to the right and descend to a crossroads you passed on the way up.

(1) Then turn left and continue downhill. At the junction with the playground, turn right. Pass under the cable car line, turn left and quickly reach its lower station (S/E).
