Description of the walk

The start is at the Mare de la Marne, a hamlet situated on a small road linking Les Forges to the D17, near Concremiers.
Follow the yellow markings: this is route no. 27 proposed by the Brenne Regional Nature Park, known as the Salleron Valley.

(S/E) Take the track to the south-west until you reach the three-way junction.

(1) Continue south to the next junction.

(2) Turn right, then 100m further on, turn left. Join a small road and follow it to the right to the hamlet of Beauvais.

(3) Continue straight on; the road becomes a track. Follow the signposts, turning left twice on the descent.

(4) Depending on the time of year (see “Practical Information”), it is possible to cross the Salleron via the ford, but it is preferable to cross a small field on the left to reach a footbridge. Head back up through the woodland to the hamlet of La Berthonnerie. Follow the small road to the D32b.

(5) Turn right, then take the small road on the right towards Les Buissons.

(6) After passing through the hamlet, leave the road at the bend and continue along the path opposite. After 300m, turn right into the woods and head down to Le Salleron.
Cross the ford carefully (Caution: see “Practical information”) then head back up the path opposite. Pass a farm track on the right and reach the edge of the woods near a sheepfold. Continue along the track across the field.

(7) On the outskirts of the hamlet of Salleron, turn onto the track on the right and continue to a four-way junction (elevation 114).

(8) Turn left towards Les Chardonnières, cross the hamlet and then take the D53 on the right.

(9) At the crossroads in Les Forges, take the left-hand road to reach the medieval castle. Head down the path that runs along the west side of the castle and leads to the banks of the Anglin. Then retrace your steps to the previous crossroads.

(9). Then turn left towards the hamlet of La Combe.

(10) Take the track on the right for 100m. Turn left onto a grassy path lined with trees and shrubs. At the end, turn left to reach the junction you passed on the way out.

(1). Return to the starting point by turning left (S/E).

Notes

No water source.
Wear waterproof trousers and shoes (there is sometimes tall grass and fords to cross).

Please note: from October, during periods of heavy rain, the route is impassable at the Salleron crossing (ford after (6)) until the end of March.
In this case, follow the route below:

(6) After passing through the hamlet, leave the road at the bend and continue along the path opposite. After 300m, turn right into the woods and head down to the Salleron.
If the ford is impassable, retrace your steps and take the previous path on the right.
At the end of the track, turn right towards the hamlet of La Chaise, then at the three-way junction, take the small road on the left.
Cross the hamlet of Beaupuits heading west, then turn right at the stop sign. 40 m further on, turn right onto a path that leads to the D53. Follow it to the right, cross the bridge over the Salleron and reach the village of the same name. Turn right again and return to the checkpoint (7).

This route extension adds 1.5 km to the walk.

In the village of Concremiers, you can eat at the Relais de l'Anglin, which offers very good value for money. I recommend it, but do let them know if you are a large group.

Hello.
A very pleasant route; I can’t say much about the signposting and descriptions as I no longer use the GPX data. However, please be careful just after point number 6 (about 300 metres on): it is no longer possible to cross the Salleron as the concrete blocks used for crossing have been washed away by recent flooding, which means you have to go round via Beaupuits and Salleron. From memory, this adds about 1.5 km to the route.

That’s exactly what we did. That way, there are no surprises.
Thank you.

Great. It’s best to allow for a possible detour.

A walk that starts in an open plain. We came across two roe deer there.
The section of the Salleron valley is more interesting. But there is one major drawback: after crossing the Salleron once via a footbridge, the second crossing, despite a warning to take care, is problematic. There is no footbridge; you have to cross on foot over uneven stones made slippery by a fairly strong current, which made it impossible for us to cross. We therefore turned back to the first path on the right, which led us to the hamlet of La Chaise, then along the road to the village of Salleron where we rejoined the normal route.
The Château des Forges is definitely worth a visit.

A variety of paths, undulating terrain, with a few rather monotonous and windy stretches between the fields. Hamlets with beautifully restored buildings. We crossed the Salleron, which was still quite deep: it was refreshing but a bit of a struggle for the feet! Perhaps it’s best to wait until the water level is lower… as this stretch is absolutely brilliant! The Château de Forges is well worth a visit.

An interesting hike; the second crossing of the Salleron was impossible to fords due to high water levels, so we took a detour via La Chaise, Beaupuit and the D55
