The Valley at Selongey

Start at the car park on Place Fréderic Lescure, opposite the hall of the same name.

(S/E) Turn left onto Rue Henri Jevain and walk alongside the Camping des Courvelles until you reach Rue du Rang. Turn right and continue until you reach Voie du Marché. Turn right and carry on straight ahead until you reach the D3 county road (Rue de la Roche).

(1) Cross it carefully and head straight ahead onto Rue des Roches. Continue down to Rue de Marey and turn left onto it.

(2) Turn right onto Chemin de Grancey. At the Y-junction, take Chemin des Ruelles on the left. Continue for 2.65 km along the track which leads out of the woods and across the fields to the Foncegrive water tower.

(3) At the water tower, turn left and continue for 600 m along the road. Take the path on the right.

(4) On the track, take in the view over the village of Foncegrive. Further on, turn right onto the Route de Cussey (D120E), then turn left onto Rue du Chêne.

(5) Cross the Ru de la Gorge and pass the town hall with its mural. The mural painted on the town hall wall depicts the village as it appeared on an old map. Before the bend leading out of the village, turn left onto the Chemin de Boussenois. Then turn right onto the Chemin de Praillard. Continue along the Chemin de Geney to the right, then turn left onto the Chemin des Longchamps. Continue for 900 m.

(6) Take the path that climbs to the right into the Combe de Gency woods and continue for 1.85 km. Keep left and continue until you reach the unpaved track.

(7) On leaving the woods, turn right after the field. Continue to Rue des Saulx and La Crâ.

(8) Turn left and follow the Chemin de la Crâa until you reach the street of the same name. Walk down to the main street (Rue Meville). Turn right, then take the first street on the left, Rue de la Greuillotte.

(9) Walk through the SEB factory site until you reach Rue de la Roche. The SEB factory, founded in 1857 by Antoine Lescure, has made Selongey the home of the pressure cooker since 1953. There is a factory outlet in the town of Selongey. Cross Rue de la Roche and take Rue du Stade back to the starting point (S/E).

• Saint-Rémy Church in Foncegrive, rebuilt in the early^18th century on the site of the original church. It is inspired by the Romanesque style; its square, slate-roofed bell tower is topped by a spire.
