In the forest of Crécey-sur-Tille via the Vornay valley

Head to Crécey-sur-Tille and park near the football pitch on Rue du Moulin, close to the glass recycling bin.

(S/E) From the car park, head towards the village centre via Rue du Moulin. At the first junction, turn left into Rue de Bourgogne. After about a hundred metres, turn left again into Rue du Château. At the gate, there is a view of the castle and its dovecote.

(1) Continue to the right and, at the junction immediately ahead, turn left onto Rue Basse. Note the wash house as the street bends to the right and continue to the D120. Follow this road to the left, keeping to the left-hand verge (another wash house). Continue to the junction just before the bridge over the Tille.

(2) Then take the^first dirt track on the right (take care when crossing the D120). After a few dozen metres, at a fork, turn left. Immediately afterwards, leave the track to the right to follow a fence and take the path that climbs up into the Combe Vornay.

(3) In the valley, at the crossroads where there is a large granite marker, take the path on the right indicated by a sign for section no. 27. At the end of the section, as you leave the valley, take the stony path on the right to quickly reach the Carrefour de la Croix de Brun (elevation 389).

(4) Then turn left and, at the fork that appears shortly afterwards, keep to the right. At the next junction, turn right onto the Chemin de Montaigu. Descend slightly until you reach a hairpin bend.

(5) Then turn right at the hairpin bend and continue along this route (south-west) uphill.

(6) At the top of the hill, at a fork, turn left and head downhill.

(7) At the junction, turn towards the houses. Follow Chemin de la Louère and, at the T-junction, turn right to head back down to the village (ignore all turn-offs to the left). You’ll come out onto the D120; follow it to the right. At the next junction, turn left into Rue de Champagne and follow it to the town hall.

(8) Turn right, leaving the town hall on your left, then walk around the church. From the church square (view of the castle), head towards Rue de Bourgogne and follow it to the right. Continue straight ahead and, at the triangular junction, turn right onto Rue du Moulin to reach the car park (S/E).

The small village of Crécey-sur-Tille is home to the Church of Notre-Dame de la Nativité, the transept of which dates back to the 12th and 13th centuries. The chancel is from the 17th century.
Inside, carved from polychrome limestone, is a 16th-century depiction of the Assumption of the Virgin.
The church, surrounded by the cemetery, has been well restored; its slate-covered bell tower stands above the entrance.
The village has several interesting stone crosses and two wash houses.
The first is located at the lower end of the village behind the town hall, near the entrance to the castle. Its façade is painted white and its openings are rounded; the wash house is covered with machine-made tiles. The second, dating from the 18th century and fed by a short underground aqueduct, lies 500 metres to the north.
At the southern entrance to the village, the watermill has been restored. There used to be an oil mill and a fulling mill here.
