La Roche Saint-Blaise

Short walk with a steep climb at the start and a beautiful view from the Roche de Saint-Blaise.
The finish isn't great, as it's in a housing estate, but I must admit I did this walk with my young dog Marcus to prepare him for future hikes with me.

Description of the walk

Park just before the housing estate, along Rue Aristide Briand.

(S/E) Walk slightly uphill along this road, cross the hamlet of La Cheville, pass in front of a campsite and then under a power line. Shortly afterwards, turn left onto the forest path (Route de la Roche Saint-Blaise 30 mins).
Pass the Grand Fays forest house (horses are sometimes out) and continue for about 300m until you reach a fork in the road.

(1) Take the path on the right (blue diamond/red circle signpost towards Roche Saint-Blaise). After a pleasant 500m climb, you will arrive at a forest road.

(2) Cross it and take the path into the woods opposite you (slightly to your right). This is the last climb before you reach Roche Saint-Blaise, where the view is magnificent (but noisy due to the fast-flowing river below).

(3) The descent is gentle along the path to the north of this rock, leading to an intersection.

(4) Take the path on the right. Follow this path for 8 minutes to reach a forest road, which you will take on the left.

(5) At the crossroads below, continue down the forest road on the left.

(6) Then, 300 metres further on, look out for the footpath marked with a red circle on your right, which will take you back to the forest road you took at the start of your walk.

(7) Turn right, then follow this road which climbs slightly, passing a water reservoir on your left and reaching a crossroads 200 metres further on.

(8) Turn left towards the quarry. Pass under a power line and walk along a meadow on your right to reach a district road. Continue straight ahead.

(9) You are now in front of the quarry. Continue straight ahead. On your left, you will see a football and rugby stadium, then a housing estate.
Take the first street on the left, Rue de l'Aubépine, and after 300 metres, turn left again to reach Rue Aristide Briand. Finally, walk up this street on your left to return to your starting point (S/E).

Enjoy your walk and let's share nature!

Route of the Vosges pine forests.
The view is surely nice, but on this foggy day at the end of December...
Didn't meet anyone. I never use the description, but the map is a perfect guide.

A short walk with a good climb at the start to warm up and a beautiful view from the Roche de Saint-Blaise. Some paths have been damaged by forestry work, which is a shame.

I'll start with a tip: we parked at the Vosgina campsite, which is a little further away than recommended, but this campsite has the major advantage of having a visitor car park at the entrance.

The first part of the hike was very nice, with excellent signage and a welcome stretch through the cool forest given how hot it was that day.
However, once we left the woods and entered the quarry, it became less interesting.
This passage through the middle of the quarry, with machinery operating, might make you think you've taken the wrong path, especially as the workers give you dirty looks, but don't worry, it is indeed a public road.
Finally, the passage through the housing estate is of little interest.

Nice route. I pushed on to Collé Pass, after Rocher St Blaise. Forestry work has damaged the path before this pass.
