Route des Roches in the Répy massif

A very pleasant, shaded circular route on charming forest paths. After an easy climb, almost the entire route is on the summit plateau. You will walk from rock to rock: Joli Bois, Faucompierre, Corbeaux, Coucou, Renard, passing by Tête de Répy, with beautiful views at each one.

Description of the walk

La Haute Neuveville, crossroads of the plague victims (parking area)

(S/E) Continue along the tarmac road for about 50 metres. Take the path just behind the picnic table next to the information board and follow the Faucompierre route (Anneau Vert). After a short climb, you will quickly reach Roche Joli Bois.

(1) Continue to the surprising Roches de Faucompierre, which you will go around at the bottom.

(2) Climb a few metres to the top of the Roches de Faucompierre and enjoy a magnificent view of the Vosges plain. There are benches here. Descend and, immediately afterwards, leave the Faucompierre route to follow the Croix Bleue de la Pierre d'Appel route opposite. A rock with cup marks is indicated further to the right. Pass by an electricity pylon and continue along a wider, straight path until you reach a track junction.

(3) Do not immediately head towards the Roche des Corbeaux indicated straight ahead, but turn right (still following the Croix Bleue signs for the Pierre d'Appel route) and you will come to a fork.

(4) Leave the Blue Cross markings and turn onto thefirst path on the left (upper part), towards Roche des Corbeaux, now following the Yellow Disc markings for the Répy route. There is a beautiful viewpoint (bench), then a second one at Roche des Corbeaux. Pass another electricity pylon and continue along this pretty forest path to Roche du Coucou, then to the Tête de Répy orientation table.

(5) Lovely view of Raon l'Étape from Tête de Répy. Quickly reach Roche du Renard on a small road; cross it to take the yellow disc marked path opposite, which descends.

(6) Leave the markings on your left, which take you back to the route you took on the way up, and descend to the right along a wide, unmarked lane that turns right and joins a forest path. Follow it to the left and return to the (S/E).

An accessible and interesting hike. I particularly enjoyed the rocks – they were like real sculptures.

A great route. The rocks are impressive, especially the Roches de Faucompierre.
Be careful at point (4) in the description when you pass the yellow disc markings for the Répy route. This is where the route makes a hairpin turn. If you take the lower part of the route, which we did by mistake, you will pass in front of the Roche des Corbeaux, but below it, which is why we didn't realise it straight away. It was only when we noticed that we were continuing to descend, whereas the proposed route remains on the summit plateau, that we realised our mistake...

Beautiful rocks, beautiful views and ideally located benches. At the start, you can add a short visit to the plague chapel, which is not exceptional but is steeped in history.

I use GPS to follow the route, which is very handy.
The route is very pleasant and reveals the typical landscape of this region of the Vosges. I really enjoyed this walk.

Hike done with a group of 30 people who were very satisfied with the beauty of the panoramic views. We chose a sunny morning. The route was easy to follow despite the presence of numerous trails.

A beautiful, easy and pleasant route, suitable for children aged 10 and above. The ground is loose, so walking shoes are not necessary unless it has rained recently. The views are lovely, with several benches along the way... but it's not as if you can see Mont Blanc!
