Parking at La Sommette church. Yellow-blue markings, some of which are old, mountain bike route 45 and pictogram (hiker and fir tree).
(S/E) Descend towards Grande Rue, then turn right, passing in front of the town hall. Continue right, still on Grande Rue. Just before the village exit, turn left onto Rue des Sapins. Continue on this small tarmac road. When it turns left, ignore the two paths on the right.
(1) At the next fork, when you start to overlook the valley, turn right. The road quickly becomes stony and gradually descends towards the valley, then enters the forest. When it loses its stony surface, pass a crossroads and continue straight downhill, following the path.
(2) After the first bend, when you reach a grove of tall, beautiful spruce trees, you will come to a fork (wooden sign saying "La Sommette"): continue downhill to the right, still following the MTB route 45. You will soon come to an uphill path, which you take downhill to the left. About a hundred metres further down, ignore a path on the right and continue straight on to the banks of the Reverotte.
(3) On the left-hand side of the path, you will see the start of a stream which you can follow for about thirty metres to discover a tufa waterfall at the end of a small valley. A little further on, you will find a lovely picnic area by the river. A little further on, when you reach a more open space between the path and the river, move closer to the bank for a small viewpoint over the Reverotte.
(4) You will arrive at the pumping station and a charming old bridge spanning the stream. Continue straight ahead uphill. After a left turn, when a path comes in from the left, turn right into the grove via a small, very discreet path (marked with a few blue dots on the trees) to carefully overlook the top of a small valley and its waterfall. Go back up to the path via the stream bed if the water is not too high.
(5) You will immediately come to a fork. Continue straight ahead along this beautiful stone path.
(6) A little further up, about thirty metres after a yellow and blue marker, you will find the mountain bike route and a fork. Descend into the pine forest on the left into a small valley, soon crossing a stream, then climbing up the other side towards a new stony path.
(7) Go up completely to the right, passing a curious semi-circular fountain
(8). You will reach a small tarmac road at a hairpin bend, which you climb on the left to the village.
(9) At the first house, turn right, then right again, passing in front of the town hall. Then turn right again to reach the church (S/E).
The route includes cliff paths and unsecured viewpoints. The paths are rocky and slippery in places. Sturdy footwear is essential and walking sticks are recommended.
