Parking in the centre of Loray opposite the church. Yellow and blue signposts.
(S/E) Visit the church and the 12th-century calvary, then head down towards the round fountain and turn left into Rue de la Mairie. You will pass the moustachioed soldier on the war memorial. Turn right onto the D19 (Grande Rue). Stop at No. 16, the house dating from 1606 with its coat of arms on the wall. You will pass the 400-year-old lime tree near the wash house.
(1) On leaving the village, before the farm building, turn right onto the stony path towards Source de la Reverotte.
(2) You will come to a wider gravel path, which you follow to the right for about 50 metres. At the hunting car park, turn immediately left and go downhill, passing through a beautiful pine forest with slender trees.
(3) When you catch sight of the Martinvaux meadows on your right, look for the wooden sign for Belvédère, which invites you to climb back up to the left. At the small tarmac road, turn right for about 30 metres, then right again to re-enter the woods via a grassy path that will lead you to the Belvédère des Genevois. This is a lovely viewpoint over the small wild valley, slightly spoiled by a young fir tree that has grown there. Feel free to move a little to the right of the fence to enjoy the view.
(4) Retrace your steps.
(3) Continue straight downhill to reach the Reverotte stream. Climb up to its source via the path that goes up to the left before the footbridge.
(5) Cross the stream via the footbridge and head towards the beautiful old Martinvaux farm. Go around it on the left to find a stone path.
(6) You will arrive at the Puits de la Doye and a fork in the road: take the right. Shortly after a small concrete bridge, turn left towards Grotte de la Baume along a beautiful gravel path that runs alongside the stream.
(7) When the road is covered with large concrete slabs to allow a stream to flow, look for the path on the right that climbs up to the Grotte de la Baume de Martinvaux, located about a hundred metres away. When I passed by, the sign was on the ground. Return to the gravel road and continue to the right.
(8) At a hunting car park, when the path begins a hairpin bend up to the left towards Plaimont, leave it and continue straight ahead at the end of the car park until you find the signposts and a forest path that climbs back up to Loray. You will come to a wider gravel path at right angles, which you cross to continue climbing opposite.
(9) At the crossroads, continue straight ahead to join the departmental road (fortunately not very busy), which you take to the right to return to Loray and the car park (S/E).
