The Pointe d'Angolon via the Arête de Chamossière

A circular loop around the resort of Les Gets with an ascent to the Pointe d’Angolon, where the panorama is superb, offering views of: the Fiz and Aravis ranges, the Mont Blanc massif in the background and the Dents du Midi. You can also see Morzine clearly and a stretch of Lake Geneva.
The climb to Pointe d’Angolon is a good introduction to ridge trails as it is slightly exposed, with cables at one point. However, the route is never difficult.

Description of the walk

Access: Les Gets, resort centre: Les Chavannes chairlift (to go from 1,170m to 1,620m).

(S) Upon exiting the chairlift, start climbing to the right towards the Col du Ranfolly via a wide path along the ridges. At the Col du Ranfolly (1,656m), cross the D354 and follow the signs opposite towards Ranfolly.

(1) At the junction signposted for Col de Joux Plane, there is a signpost. Turn left. The path to Col de Joux Plane is more exposed but safe. It overlooks the lake. In wet weather, take care as the ground is slippery.

(2) Once you reach the Col de Joux Plane, head down to the right for a short distance towards the lake until you reach the junction sign at the pass (1705m).

(3) Turn left towards Pointe d'Angolon along the track. Climb up to the top of the Chamossière chairlift.

(4) At the Chamossière chairlift (2006m), Pointe d'Angolon is just 15 minutes away. Turn left. This final section is trickier as it is somewhat exposed (path along the top of the ridge) with a few sections equipped with chains. Pointe d'Angolon is at 2,090m. You can see Lake Geneva.

(5) To descend from Pointe d'Angolon, turn left towards Lac Nyon Guérin. For a few rocky sections: follow the painted markings on the rocks carefully.

(6) At Lac de Nyon Guérin, head left towards the Col de Joux Plane. At the next junction, turn left and return to the spot you passed before the ascent to Pointe d'Angolon.

(2) From the Col de Joux Plane, head down to the right for a short distance towards the lake until you reach the sign at the col junction (1705m). Turn right this time and head down towards the lake. Join the road (the D354 heading to Morzine) and follow it to the right to go round the lake. Remember to look back at the ridge you took in the morning.
Continue for a good kilometre along the road until you reach the sign for Le Croz d’en Haut (1560m), which indicates several directions, including “Bouchard Derrière” at 50 mins.

(7) Leave the road and turn left to follow the signs for Bouchard until the next junction. At the signpost, do not follow the direction indicated to the left but continue climbing the forest track (straight ahead) to join another signposted route (on the IGN map: black line). Turn left until you reach the sign for Le Lairon (1644m). Continue to the right until you reach the Pointe de la Turche.
We are on the Rosta ridges and the view takes in much of the Les Gets ski area, the Pointe d’Angolon and the Pointe de Nyon.
Continue to La Rosta (1,665m) then Pointe de la Turche (1,607m).

(8) From the peak, head straight down (leaving the paths on your left) to La Turche (1,495m) and Les Puthays (1,210m), where the La Turche ski lift starts.

(E) The finish is at La Turche. You can reach the resort centre on foot or by free shuttle bus (every hour).

The trail to Pointe de Chamossière is steep both on the way up and on the way down. A beautiful ridge with remarkable views all around.

Hello,
A lovely hike and a lovely day.
Please follow the route shown on the map via Chamossière. Going the other way can be dangerous in wet or damp conditions. Even in dry weather, the Chamossière path is slippery.
