Description of the walk

Departure from the large car park at the Col de Joux Plane. Access from Annemasse via Taninges. Just after Morillon (D907), turn left onto the Route du Villard and continue climbing for about 12 km to the pass.

(S/E) From the large car park at the pass, walk 50 m northwards. Just before the first chalet, you will see the sign for Joux Plane 1691 m. Head eastwards towards Pointe d'Angolon via Collu de la Chamossière. The path is fairly wide, easy to walk on and well used by hikers. Continue straight ahead.

(1) Reach the ridge, where you will already have a beautiful view of Buet and the Mont Blanc massif. Turn left and start walking along the ridges. Watch your step and avoid looking down if you are afraid of heights.

(2) You will then arrive at the Télésiège de la Chamossière 2006 m sign just above the chairlift arrival point. Continue straight ahead until you reach a small difficulty (secured by cables). Pass Collu 2066 m and follow the path in the same direction.

(3) You will arrive at Pointe d'Angolon, where you can enjoy the surrounding panorama and take a short break. For the descent (caution: the descent is quite steep), follow the direction of Lac de Nyon Guérin. The descent begins on the ridges, with a few small passages that are a little difficult, where you can use your hands for support. Always follow the arrows and yellow dots. Your path then passes over some stones that are more or less slippery, then the slope becomes gentler. Lac de Nyon Guérin is getting closer, so head in that direction.

(4) Halfway across the lake, at the chalets on your left, look for a new sign and head towards Lac de Joux Plane (south) for about 300 metres. The path leads to the downhill ski slopes. Continue straight ahead.

(5) When you reach an intersection, turn left, continuing slightly downhill, and cross the stream. Immediately afterwards, turn right onto the path, which is quite steep at first but then levels out. Continue straight ahead, cross another stream, and then a final gentle climb awaits you after the long left-hand bend. Do not miss the sharp right turn (sign with yellow arrows).

(6) You will reach the Col de Joux Plane. Continue south for a few metres until you see Lac de Joux Plane. Continue in the same direction to reach your starting point car park (S/E).

Apart from the start, which isn't very clear, but perhaps the route has been changed, there's nothing else to report.
One section is a bit technical but well equipped and can be negotiated easily with a little care.
Superb view from the summit over Morzine, Les Fizz and the Mont Blanc range.
Don't plan on picnicking at the summit as it's infested with insects. Don't hang around there

Superb hike
Can also be done in the opposite direction to avoid the fairly steep climb on the way back
Avoid in rainy weather for the section along the ridges.
Did this with two children and a dog without any problems, even though there are a few difficult sections.
The views of the Pointe de Nyon, Mont Blanc and the entire mountain range are incredible.
Worth doing again and again

Great hike! When the clouds aren't around 😅
As mentioned previously, some sections are quite narrow and have cables because the path crosses the rock to get to the other side of the ridge.
I would say that it is between moderate and difficult.

Hello, I set off as indicated from Lac de Joux Plane. The first part is not straightforward because there isn't really a path to reach the ridge to start the climb to Pointe d'Angolon. To reach the ridge, I had to cross the scree, which isn't easy. I believe there is a path that joins the ridge below Chamossière, which starts at the bend when you arrive at the pass from Samoëns. The rest of the hike is well marked. At Lac de Nyon Guérin, I headed towards Col de Joux Plane and back to the lake. A very beautiful hike, during which I encountered a bearded vulture that circled above me for a while – pure joy.

The hike begins with an ascent along alpine paths (herds of cows) to the ridge, which you follow to the top of the Chamossière chairlift (Portes du Soleil) and then to Pointe d'Angolon.
The summit itself is not particularly interesting, but the 360-degree view of the surrounding mountains (Mont Blanc, Pointe Percée, Roc d'Enfer, Môle, Dents Blanches, Jallouvre, Buet, etc.) is magnificent.
The unpleasant part of the entire journey to the summit: the flies!
Then, the descent to the lake is quite steep, not difficult in dry weather, but I imagine it's a bit risky in wet conditions.
Then you have to climb back up to the Col de Joux Plane: luckily we didn't stop to eat at the little restaurant on Lake Nyon Guérin (we arrived at 11 a.m. and the kitchen wasn't open yet) because the climb back up after a hearty Savoyard meal would certainly have been difficult

A pleasant circular route with lovely views once you reach the ridges.
The end of the hike from Lake Nyon Guerin to Lake Joue Plane is not very interesting.

Popular trail (you won't be alone) but very peaceful (it's not crowded either)

Completed early in the morning (7am), only four people encountered! The route is clear.
The passage along the ridges is magnificent, but be careful if you are prone to vertigo (I do not recommend it with children).
On the way back to Joux-Plane at 9 a.m., there were already lots of people starting the climb.
I highly recommend this hike.

A lovely circular, often steep on the way up and down. The actual rating seems to me to be above average but below difficult. It's somewhere in between. The cable section isn't difficult but can confuse hikers.
Superb views all along the ridge and especially at the summit
The pies and beers at the restaurant at Lake Myon are very good but treacherous: they make the return to Joux Plane quite painful (roller coaster + uninteresting climb up the ski slopes).
We can recommend this hike.

A beautiful hike in the sunshine with magnificent views of Mont Blanc

Be careful, it had frozen the night before, and with the thaw, the descent from Pointe d'Angolon via the ridge to Lake Nyon Guérin was really very slippery...

If you want to enjoy the view and stop for a picnic, you'll be well over the suggested 3 hours and 15 minutes :-)

A beautiful hike with superb views of the Mont Blanc massif. There are a few slightly "airy" sections that may come as a surprise on a hike rated as moderately difficult, but they are still easy to navigate and add even more excitement to this hike, which is already full of it!
