Departure from the large car park at the Col de Joux Plane. Access from Annemasse via Taninges. Just after Morillon (D907), turn left onto the Route du Villard and continue climbing for about 12 km to the pass.
(S/E) From the large car park at the pass, walk 50 m northwards. Just before the first chalet, you will see the sign for Joux Plane 1691 m. Head eastwards towards Pointe d'Angolon via Collu de la Chamossière. The path is fairly wide, easy to walk on and well used by hikers. Continue straight ahead.
(1) Reach the ridge, where you will already have a beautiful view of Buet and the Mont Blanc massif. Turn left and start walking along the ridges. Watch your step and avoid looking down if you are afraid of heights.
(2) You will then arrive at the Télésiège de la Chamossière 2006 m sign just above the chairlift arrival point. Continue straight ahead until you reach a small difficulty (secured by cables). Pass Collu 2066 m and follow the path in the same direction.
(3) You will arrive at Pointe d'Angolon, where you can enjoy the surrounding panorama and take a short break. For the descent (caution: the descent is quite steep), follow the direction of Lac de Nyon Guérin. The descent begins on the ridges, with a few small passages that are a little difficult, where you can use your hands for support. Always follow the arrows and yellow dots. Your path then passes over some stones that are more or less slippery, then the slope becomes gentler. Lac de Nyon Guérin is getting closer, so head in that direction.
(4) Halfway across the lake, at the chalets on your left, look for a new sign and head towards Lac de Joux Plane (south) for about 300 metres. The path leads to the downhill ski slopes. Continue straight ahead.
(5) When you reach an intersection, turn left, continuing slightly downhill, and cross the stream. Immediately afterwards, turn right onto the path, which is quite steep at first but then levels out. Continue straight ahead, cross another stream, and then a final gentle climb awaits you after the long left-hand bend. Do not miss the sharp right turn (sign with yellow arrows).
(6) You will reach the Col de Joux Plane. Continue south for a few metres until you see Lac de Joux Plane. Continue in the same direction to reach your starting point car park (S/E).
