Description of the walk

Departure from Lac de Joux Plane (car park), accessible from Samoëns or Morzine.

(S/E) Head north towards the Col de Joux Plane, leaving the lake on your left.

(1) From the pass, descend the Les Gets slopes on a wide path. At the bottom of this path, cross a ski slope following a descending trail for a good hundred metres.

(2) Take a path on the right. This path follows the slope between two ski slopes for a good kilometre, sometimes ascending and sometimes descending. After passing under the Chamossière chairlift line, the trail arrives at a ski slope which you descend for about a hundred metres.

(3) Then take the track on the right (north) towards Lac de Nyon Guérin.

(4) Go around the lake on the right and take a path on the right on the side of Pointe de Nyon, which can be slippery in places.

(5) After this straight section, take the path to the right which climbs up the ridge in short hairpin bends to the summit of Pointe de Nyon (360° panoramic view, orientation table).

(6) Begin the descent via the trail that descends northwards to the Pointe de Nyon chairlift. Join the 4x4 track (ski slope in winter) and descend in wide hairpin bends below the chairlift line.

(7) At an altitude of around 1,700 metres, the track heads west and away from the chairlift. You will arrive at the Nyon chalets behind.

(8) Take the track on the left and pass under the Troncs chairlift line. Continue along the track to Lac de Nyon Guérin and go around it on the right.

(4) Take the same route as on the way there to the Lac de Joux Plane car park (S/E).

A very beautiful hike in good weather to the tip of Nyon (with a view of Mont Blanc on a clear day) where we had lunch. But we descended through the forest to avoid the ski slopes and the heat. Take a small path on the right in the forest. It adds 4 km to the hike, but the coolness and the forest were worth the detour. Be careful when leaving the forest, you have to turn left to go back up to the
chalet at Lake Nyon to resume the return route to the car park.

The route was more difficult than expected because the initial description indicated that it was an easy hike, whereas the
Ascent is tough, as is the descent.

Enjoy your hike, the climb is very pleasant and the view from the peak is well worth it.
For the descent, the ski slope is not very pleasant, but you can also follow a small dirt track on the right and then cross back over the slope to rejoin the route.

A beautiful walk that is somewhat unusual in that it starts quite high up and involves several ascents and descents before reaching the chalets and Lake Nyon Guérin.
Then there is a pleasant climb up the hillside, but it quickly becomes very steep, with a path that zigzags constantly; it is very well marked but slippery in places.
Before the summit, the slope flattens out a little. The view is beautiful, but we didn't get to enjoy the orientation table much as it was swarming with flying ants. Clouds are starting to hide the mountains towards Mont Blanc.
To reach the chairlift arrival point, we took a shortcut, which was a mistake because after a few metres it turned to mud and as the slope was very steep, with nothing to hold on to except tufts of grass, it took me more than 5 minutes to descend less than 10 metres!
:-)
The descent via the ski slope (4x4 track) is not interesting, especially as there was work being done to redevelop the ski slope.
Around point 7, we preferred to follow the path rather than go down into the meadow.
The Nyon Guérin site is very beautiful and pleasant, with lots of cows and horses. There is a pool with fresh water.
My GPS indicated a total elevation gain of 760 m and a length of approximately 10 km.

There is a path at the top of the chairlift arrival point that allows you to avoid the slope and pass through the woods (there is a picnic table at the end of the descent at Pachorey).

A lovely family hike. A pleasant climb to the top of Nyon with superb views from the summit. Lakes and waterfalls along the route.
