La Montagne des Bourbiers

There are quite a few lovely little walks through woodland and from hamlet to hamlet, all to the east of the town of Saint-Martin-sur-Ouanne.

Description of the walk

The route starts at the car park of the former Saint-Martin-sur-Ouanne railway station.

(S/E) Join the D18 and turn right. At the Fork in the road, head up the right-hand path. Right at the end, just before the entrance to the château, take the grassy path on the left which leads a little further on to the D18. Cross it with great care and head right for 50 m.

(1) Take a wide, sandy path on the left-hand side. Further on, ignore a path on the right leading to the hamlet of Le Plessis. Continue straight on until you reach a road (elevation 168). Turn left onto the road, keeping well to the left-hand verge, until you reach the junction with the road towards Les Goilards.

(2) Carry on straight ahead and, as soon as the road bends to the right, leave the road and take a wide path running parallel to it on the left-hand side, joining the D950. Cross with great care and take the road opposite, which climbs towards the centre of Saint-Denis-sur-Ouanne. Turn left onto the uphill street and head towards the church. Turn right, keeping the church on your right, and rejoin the road you left earlier. Continue left until you reach the Fork in the road.

(3) Leave the road heading off to the right and take the one on the left, heading towards the cemetery on your right. From there, continue straight on along the wide path until you reach another junction.

(4) Turn right onto the path that climbs slightly. Once at the top, continue along the right-hand side until you reach a junction (elevation 176).

(5) Turn left onto the downhill path. Cross the Ru des Entonnoirs and follow the path back up. At the very top, continue along the left-hand side. Follow the edge of the woodland on your left, then turn right and join a road.

(6) Turn left onto the road, ignoring the path further on that branches off to the right towards Château les Pinabeaux. After passing the water tower on your left, carry on until you reach the next road on the left.

(7) Turn left, walk through the hamlet of Les Hâtes until you reach the end of the road. Continue along a path, and a little further on, take the next path on the right to join a road.

(8) Cross the road and head right for about 150 metres, then turn left as you pass through the hamlet of Les Darbois. At the very end, turn left for about twenty metres and, as soon as the road bends to the right, leave it.

(9) Take the path opposite until you reach another road. Continue straight on along this road until you reach the D57.

(10) Head left for about 10 metres, cross the D57 to the right with great care and take the path opposite, passing through the hamlet of La Tuilerie, where, shortly afterwards, the path becomes a road. Continue until you reach the D57 again.

(11) Cross with care and head right, keeping to the left-hand verge until you reach the next junction. Turn left and head downhill until you reach the starting point (S/E).
