La Pierre à Mouchard

The route starts from Place Saint-Martin, near the church.

(S/E) Set off in the opposite direction to the village centre. At the first road, turn left, keeping the Château de Grandchamp on your left. Continue to the crossroads. Cross the D950 with care and head straight ahead, crossing the railway line.

(1) Turn left onto the path, keeping the railway line on your left. Further on, ignore the path on the right and carry straight on to the next crossroads (path not shown on the IGN map).
Then turn right onto the path, which climbs slightly, and carry on straight ahead at the junction with a path branching off to the left. You’ll come to a road.

(2) Cross over and turn right onto the road leading to the hamlet of Volvent. After about 250 m, turn left onto the track leading to the hamlet of Les Godets. Pass it and, at the end of the road, continue along the track, ignoring the track on the right further on. You’ll reach a road.

(3) Turn left. Ignore the path and the road on the right and keep to the left until you reach the next path on the right. Take this path as it enters the woodland. Ignore the four successive paths branching off to the right and continue until you reach a crossroads where four paths meet.

(4) Turn left, walking alongside the Étang de Mouchard on your left, set in its beautiful green surroundings. Carry on until you reach the road. Turn left and walk for about 300 m.

(5) Turn right towards Les Chaillots until you reach the shed on your left. Take the path on the right, running alongside the last house on your left. Follow the grassy track and shortly afterwards you’ll reach a crossroads with four paths.

(6) Carry on straight ahead, slightly uphill, and a little further on you’ll reach the village of Saint-Denis-sur-Ouanne. Cross the road. Ignore the path on the right leading to the church. Head towards the scrap-metal cross. Turn right, walking past the church on your right, and you’ll come to a road.

(7) Turn left and head downhill to reach a T-junction. Turn right, cross the railway line. Cross with great care. Immediately turn right onto a very wide path (not shown on the IGN map). Follow the road leading off to the left until you reach the next road on the left.

(8) Leave the main road and turn left towards Les Goilards. Carry on, ignoring the path that branches off slightly to the left, and pass through the hamlet. Shortly afterwards, the road turns into a track leading to a T-junction.

(9) Turn left, ignoring the track on the right shortly afterwards. Carry on straight ahead, pass the track on the right and take the one on the left (not shown on the IGN map) for a few metres. A little further on, carry on straight ahead, passing a track on the left. Continue to the four-way junction.

(10) Carry on straight ahead. Ignore a path on the right and take the one veering slightly to the left. Join a road. First turn right then left and take the path opposite, ignoring the path on the right further on. Walk through the woodland for a few tens of metres and continue along this route until you reach a road.

(11) Carry on straight ahead (Chemin de Malicorne), leaving the cemetery on your left. Cross Rue Neuve and take Rue de Saint-Val opposite. Carry on, turning left into Rue Gaillard. At the junction, turn right and return to the starting point (S/E).

You can start this walk from the village of Saint-Denis-sur-Ouanne. Parking is available very close to the cemetery. Water point available during the summer months.

This marked route, which complies with the signposting guidelines of the Puisaye-Forterre Community of Communes, is marked with the number 80 on yellow-backed signs.
