La Pâture du Loup and the Étang de Mouchard

This walk will take you from hamlet to hamlet, through beautiful woodland sections, not to mention the unforgettable sight of the Étang de Mouchard set in its lovely green surroundings; and to finish, you can enjoy a beautiful view to the right between the 150-metre mark and the cemetery – all of this to the north-east of the town of Saint-Denis-sur-Ouanne.

Description of the walk

The walk starts from the town hall car park or near the church

(S/E) Head due south for a few metres to reach the road. Turn right twice, then follow the path which climbs slightly. Continue a little further down a gentle slope. Take the next path on the right until you reach a road.

(1) Cross the road and head right. Take the next road on the left, passing through the hamlets of Les Rémonds and Les Padelles until you reach the end of the road.

(2) From there, carry on straight ahead along the track until you reach a road. Cross the road and turn right, ignoring two tracks on the right shortly afterwards leading towards Les Lombards, and continue until you reach a road at a T-junction.

(3) Turn left and, a little further on, as soon as the path curves slightly to the left, leave it. Cross over, turn right and, further on, pass through the hamlet of Volvent. Carry on to the next road on the left.

(4) Turn left as you pass through the hamlet of Les Godets until you reach the end of the road. From there, continue along a track until you reach a road.

(5) Turn left onto the road, ignoring a path and a road on the right shortly afterwards. Take the road on the left and follow the next path on the right through the woodland until you reach the next path on the right (the two previous paths on the right are not shown on the IGN map).

(6) Turn right, noting a Yellow Cross on the tree marked with the number 80, and carry on straight ahead until you reach a road. Keep to the left until you reach the next path on the left (the previous path on the left is not shown on the IGN map).

(7) Turn left until you reach the four-way crossroads.

(8) Carry on straight ahead, following the beautiful Étang de Mouchard on your left, and continue straight on for about 1 km until you reach a road.

(9) Cross the road and turn right, passing the hamlet of Le Vivier shortly afterwards and, further on, Les Gaudins; continue for a few dozen metres until you reach the next path on the left.

(10) Take the track on the left, ignoring a track on the right a little further on leading to the hamlet of Les Pinabeaux. Carry on straight ahead until you reach the road. Cross the road and turn right until you reach the next track on the left.

(11) Turn left onto the track. At the very end, follow it to the left, keeping the edge of the woods on your right. At the end of this track, turn right and head down to the Ru des Entonnoir. Continue uphill until you reach a cross-track.

(12) Turn right and, a little further on, take the next path on the left. Just before the railway line, head up to the left along a wide path and, a little further on, you’ll reach the cemetery on your left. Continue straight on along the road. A little further on, ignore a road on the left. Continue to the right and return to the starting point (S/E).
