La Boucle des Bruyères

With an accessible 11 km route, the Bruyères circular path offers an immersion in a preserved and diverse natural heritage. The trail winds through landscapes alternating between shady forests, meadows, ponds, streams and memorials. There are two variants to shorten the route: 5.5 km and 9 km.

At the start, a path descends from the car park to the ponds and the communal orchard, running alongside the river through meadows where you can enjoy the rich diversity of flora and trees. Depending on the season, take the time to observe the multitude of habitats and the astonishing variety of flowers, frogs, mosses and mushrooms in the undergrowth.

Description of the walk

(S/E) From the town hall car park, exit through the gate, cross the road and take the path that descends towards the forest, to the left of the war memorial. After crossing the stream, continue between the ponds and the forest until you reach the communal orchard.

(1) Continue along the forest path, then turn left onto the wide forest path known as "La Grande Tranchée". Turn right until you reach the D18 (FFI monument).

(2) Take Chemin des Maquisards, to the right of the monument. At the clearing known as "Croisée des 4 chemins", follow the arrow to the left. Cross the small stone bridge over the Ruisseau des Écrevisses and take the marked path on the left to reach a crossroads.

(3) Here, there is a shortcut for a 5.5 km route and a return to the starting point. Otherwise, continue straight ahead.

(4) Leave the forest, turn left onto the road and, 100 metres further on, turn right towards the meadows. Admire the beautiful view of the Ballons des Vosges, then walk along the pond to the tarmac road and follow the signs. Turn onto the path on the left, then immediately onto the one on the right.

(5) At the crossroads, leave the alternative route and take the track on the right. In the distance, you can see the village of Amage with Sainte-Marie-en-Chanois on the right. A little further on, there is a shortcut for the 9 km alternative route, which returns to the main route at Breuchotte.

(6) After the alternative route, follow the signs to the right after the pasture and descend towards the village. Turn right onto the D311 and cross the village. See a fountain and two crosses. 500 metres after leaving the village, take Chemin des Vies on the left.

(7) Chemin des Vies follows the meandering Breuchin stream. When you reach the cross at La Bouloye, continue straight ahead on the D311 towards Breuchotte. Then, after 300 metres, turn left into the forest.

(8) At the edge of the forest, in the hamlet of Le Brossy, take the track on the left into the undergrowth, then a path on the right, passing below the road by the pond.

(9) Cross the D18 to follow the Étang du Bolet, and take Rue de Balet towards the hamlet of Les Poirets. At the fork, keep right, then take the path on the left. At the end of the path, turn right onto Rue de la Mairie, then turn left to return to the starting point (S/E).

A very pleasant hike.
The starting village is typical of the small villages of the Mille Etangs region.
The route is marked and alternates between airy forests and sunny fields.
A beautiful, rejuvenating walk.
